Bruno Fernandes has backed fellow Manchester United playmaker Christian Eriksen to keep on creating chances for Erik ten Hag‘s side.
Following some good interplay involving Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford down United’s left, Eriksen’s neat pullback resulted in United’s number eight smashing the ball into the top corner and giving the Reds the lead against Crystal Palace last night.
Michael Olise’s stunning injury-time free-kick prevented the twenty-time league champions from winning a tenth consecutive game across all competitions, but it was the second consecutive game in the capital that Eriksen and Fernandes had directly combined to score a goal.
Fernandes laid on the assist for Eriksen to score his first goal for the Reds against Fulham back in November, and with a blockbuster clash against Arsenal at The Emirates to come on Sunday, Ten Hag will be hoping that his chief creators can combine to oust Mikel Arteta’s Gunners.
Bruno Fernandes backs Christian Eriksen to keep on creating chances
United’s number 14, who joined the club on a free transfer following the expiry of his short-term contract with Brentford, has seven assists in the Premier League so far this season, only Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne (10) has set up more goals.
Following the 1-1 draw against Palace, Fernandes has backed Eriksen to keep unlocking defences.
Speaking to the club’s website, the Portuguese international said: “Obviously, Christian has been really good.
“Christian has the vision, has the quality to do the pass. He did it today and he will keep doing [it].”
With Casemiro unavailable for the trip to Arsenal due to picking up his fifth Premier League booking of the season against Palace, both Eriksen and Fernandes will have to step up and lead by example without the influential Brazilian.
But if Ten Hag’s side are to do the double over Arsenal in the league this season, Eriksen and Fernandes’s burgeoning understanding will likely be key to inflicting just a second league defeat of the season on the league leaders.
