The unusual story of the Sturm family has inspired many, and the brave mother, Katie, is considered by many to be a real superhero.
The woman gave birth to quadruplets, ᴄᴏɴᴄᴇɪᴠᴇᴅ naturally with a chance of 700,000 to one, and in her case it was even more of a miracle, since doctors told her that she would never have children even when she was a teenager.
Katie and her husband Chris were already excited when they found out they were expecting a baby, and when they found out they were having quadruplets, they were beyond happy. But that was just the beginning. Katie faced some scary health challenges during her pregnancy, but she overcame them, and now both she and the babies are doing well.
Two weeks after finding out they were expecting quadruplets, Katie was found sᴇʀɪᴏᴜsʟʏ ɪʟʟ. She was three months pregnant when she unexpectedly had a seizure at work, and the reason behind it was horrifying. “Two weeks later, I found out I had a ʙʀᴀɪɴ ᴛᴜᴍᴏʀ. It was very hard to believe,” he explained.
The then 26-year-old woman needed sᴜʀɢᴇʀʏ to remove the ᴛᴜᴍᴏʀ, but it was very ʀɪsᴋʏ for both her and the babies. Originally, they wanted to do the ᴏᴘᴇʀᴀᴛɪᴏɴ only after the birth, but after Katie had another seizure, the situation changed.
At first, her surgeon, Dr. Toral Patel, thought someone was playing a prank on him when he learned he had to operate on a pregnant mother with quadruplets, but after examining Katie, he knew her case couldn’t be delayed.
Chris knew he was ɪɴ ᴅᴀɴɢᴇʀ of ʟᴏsɪɴɢ his wife and children, but Katie fought very determinedly, and her doctor said she was “behaving wonderfully.” He handled it better than anyone could have imagined. It was fantastic,” said Dr. Patel.
Katie recovered relatively quickly from ʙʀᴀɪɴ sᴜʀɢᴇʀʏ and was ready to welcome the babies in July 2020. Jacob, Daniel, Austin and Hudson were born at 32 weeks of pregnancy. The road leading up to this point was not easy, but the persistent mother said, despite all the difficulties and tears, it was worth it. She also said she relied on her faith throughout the struggle: “At that point, I had to put myself in God’s hands, I don’t think he would have given me quadruplets if he didn’t want me to be there for them,” she said.
The Sturm family has experienced one miracle after another – from conceiving the babies to Katie’s recovery – and Chris says they’re ready for their latest adventure, raising quadruplets. “True blessings,” the mother said of their miracle babies.
The family’s story also impressed social media users, and many couldn’t help but praise Katie’s courage and determination in facing this frightening situation.
“She is an incredibly strong woman. UT Southwestern is one of the best hospitals. The life of one of my loved ones was also saved when four other hospitals refused to operate. I wish Katie and her family all the best,” wrote one commenter.
“Congratulations, Chris and Katie Sturm! I am glad that you are well. I’ve been following your travels, and I’m so happy to see this video of the healthy mommy and babies,” another user added.
“God doesn’t give you more than you can handle. May all your children be healthy and happy. You are blessed,” wrote a third.
