As One Piece enters its final arc, what are some mysteries introduced over the years that might’ve been overlooked?
The great adventure of the straw pirates is finally coming to an end after more than two decades. Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, finally decided it was time to let the cat out of the bag and shed light on the many mysteries that pervade the show. One of the most appealing aspects of One Piece is its cast of compelling characters. While this is important to the plot, the mysteries Oda concocted in the series keep fans interested over time.
One Piece is shrouded in so many mysteries that fans may focus on the most obvious ones, such as what the one piece treasure could be; the void century; who Imu and Joy Boy are; the ancient weapons; and Luffy’s connection to the sun god Nika, among others. These central mysteries are so compelling after the Wano arc that they may have overshadowed lesser-known ones. Besides, even if these mysteries are ignored, the story remains intact; however, they may be remembered, given Oda’s skill at eliciting surprises. But, after watching their favorite characters grow over the years, One Piece fans will want to know the answers to every mystery thrown into the show.
Captain John Treasure
Captain John was a well-known pirate in the world of One Piece, and tales of his treasure are widely circulated among pirates. He was killed by his crew, but the location of his treasures has yet to be discovered. Buggy, the clown, increased the importance of Captain John’s lost treasure in the series.
While looking for it, he was apprehended by a marine and taken to Impel Down. During the breakout at Impel Down, Luffy exchanged a bracelet thought to be Captain John’s for Buggy’s assistance. It is unknown whether John’s lost treasure will play a role in the final saga. However, the fact that the legendary pirate that owned the treasure belongs to the Rock pirates will make fans enthusiastic about what the treasure really is.
Crocodile’s Unknown Secret(s) and Ulterior Motives For Choosing Alabasta
Pirates are known to be greedy humans who seek wealth through any means possible, but in One Piece, some pirates are known to be benevolent enough to never harm a human to obtain the world’s riches. Fans are still confused about Crocodile’s genuine interest in selecting Alabasta—did he choose it because of its weakened state, or is there more to the story? Imu’s obsession with Alabasta princess Vivi raises whether the ex-warlord’s interest in Alabasta is much more complicated than fans think. Or is that just a theory and more emphasis will be on Imu and Alabasta?
At Impel down, Ivankov mentioned that she knows a secret that can keep Crocodile in check during the breakout at Impel Down. Whatever secrets could make the villainy crocodile cool-headed will be a huge one. However, whether the secret will be revealed remains a mystery.
Edward Evil
Edward Weevil is a former warlord and Edward Newgate’s ‘Whitebeard’ presumed son. Following his father’s death, Weevil unleashed his wrath on many towns, eventually becoming the warlord of the sea. However, Oda has created so many important characters in One Piece that a ‘small fry’ like Edward Weevil is unlikely to return in the future. The appearance and rampage of Edward Weevil in the show have yet to add any significance to the story. But Oda is a master of foreshadowing and subtlety, so perhaps the irrelevant man whose lineage is still unknown will still serve an actual purpose in the show.
Will Fans Ever Get A Backstory To Eustass Kidd?
So far, many characters have been given backstories that shed light on why they have specific goals in One Piece. At the Sabaody Archipelago, Kidd fought alongside Trafalgar D. Law and Monkey D. Luffy against the marine and celestial dragons. And, while the backstories of two of the most prominent worst generations—Trafalgar D. Law and Monkey D. Luffy—are already known, Kidd’s is still unknown. His backstory will reveal the reason for his strong bond with Killer. Their complicated relationship extends beyond a captain and a crew member because the hotheaded Eustass Kid seems to listen to no one except Killer. Kidd’s story will be an excellent addition to the many beautiful backstories Oda has created. Still, given the battle and mysteries that await, Kidd and Killer’s story may be pushed to the sidelines.
