Tottenham Hotspur have been given a ‘little bit of good news’ with the news that Harry Kane is happy to sit down and discuss a new contract, according to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge.
Antonio Conte’s side’s Premier League form has been patchy in recent weeks, leading to rumours that Kane may leave, but he now seems willing to extend his stay on the right terms.
Tottenham transfer news – Harry Kane
The striker’s current contract with Spurs is set to expire at the end of next season, as per Transfermarkt, and he has been linked with moves to clubs in both England and abroad at the end of the season.
Manchester Evening News claim that the 29-year-old is being monitored by key figures at Manchester United over a potential move to Old Trafford, following the Daily Mail‘s report that the Red Devils are eyeing a summer swoop.
90min report that Bayern Munich are potential suitors for Tottenham’s talisman, with it being detailed that he is one of their main transfer targets, while they also claim that he is hugely frustrated with Spurs’ recent form, which could play a part in negotiations.
What has Michael Bridge said about Harry Kane?
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT about the Englishman’s future at the club, Bridge said: “Just like the managerial situation, the club’s best player, and in a games time I’m sure their record goal-scorer, his future is going to be up in the air.
“But he seems quite calm about the situation at the moment, and the reports elsewhere about him being happy to sit down, it’s not him saying he will sign, but being happy to talk is a little bit of good news after what’s been a tough few weeks.”
How important is Harry Kane to Tottenham Hotspur?
The England captain has been absolutely vital for Tottenham throughout his career, netting on 266 occasions in 415 total appearances for the club in all competitions (Transfermarkt), and he has been in fine goal-scoring form again this term, second to only Erling Haaland in the Premier League scoring charts.
As such, there is no way that Spurs can even consider selling the forward, especially not to a rival English club, as there is no possible replacement that they would be able to attract to plug the gap that he would leave in the squad.
Not only that, but convincing Conte to sign a new deal could hinge on Daniel Levy being able to tie Kane down to a new deal, or else Tottenham risk having to go through another rebuilding process with a new manager.
While it has not been the best of seasons for Conte’s side so far, they are through to the Champions League last 16 and are still in the hunt for the top four, so a strong end to the campaign could convince the £200k-a-week earner to sign improved terms. (Spotrac)
