Some One Piece quotes are eye-roll-worthy or anger-inducing. Either way, there are some quotes that fans would rather forget.
Whether they be comedic or emotionally uplifting, One Piece has more than its fair share of awe-inspiring moments. In these moments, Eiichiro Oda surprises viewers by having his characters say something that profoundly resonates with his fans.
From Robin tearfully yelling, “I want to live!” to Zoro defiantly proclaiming, “Scars on the back are a swordsman’s shame!,” it’s no surprise why these and many other quotes are so memorable for the One Piece fan community. However, that isn’t to say that all One Piece quotes are good. Whether they’re intentional or not, some quotes can be eye-roll-worthy or anger-inducing. Either way, there are some quotes that fans would rather forget.
10. “I Am Invincible When Infused With Haki!”
Pica
A common critique among fans about the Dressrosa arc in One Piece is that there were too many characters to keep track of, many of whom didn’t grab fans’ attention. An example of this is Pica, one of the strongest members of the Donquixote pirates.
From Pica’s design to his Devil Fruit ability, One Piece watchers have difficulty remembering anything about him besides his squeaky voice. After Pica shows his arrogance with the above quote, pirate hunter Roronoa Zoro effortlessly defeats him. In the end, viewers were left wondering what was so special about Pica to begin with.
9. “Liar! Enemies Wouldn’t Give Us Food To Eat!”
Monkey D. Luffy
Although Luffy has more than his fair share of intellectual blunders throughout One Piece, his fight with Zoro during the Whiskey Peak arc might be one of the most aggravating. Many anime fans find this moment particularly frustrating, as the Straw Hat crew has been together for some time now.
So, when Luffy takes the words of strangers over Zoro after waking up from a food coma, his comment and the fight overall come across as really unnecessary. Thankfully, this lapse of judgment was also brief, and the two crew mates were friends again.
8. “Never Mention To Anyone The Fact That I Am Your Father!”
Vinsmoke Judge
A proficient scientist and a rotten father, Vinsmoke Judge is one character One Piece viewers won’t be forgetting anytime soon. From allowing his surgically enhanced children to bully Sanji to locking Sanji in a dungeon, Judge was an awful dad.
Judge views Sanji as a disgrace for not being cybernetically strong like his siblings, and the peak of this cruelty comes when Judge tells Sanji never to let anyone know that he is Sanji’s father. Fortunately, this loathsome remark comes back to bite Judge after Sanji saves him. Sanji then forces Judge to admit that they’re not biologically related.
7. “Now I Can Catch All The Mermaids I Want!”
Caribou
A pirate with a slimy personality and a Devil Fruit ability to match, Caribou was first introduced back in the Fish-Man Island arc. Caribou’s Devil Fruit power allows him to create bottomless swamps, which are nigh-impossible to escape from. This ability makes it easy for the rookie pirate to capture anything or anyone he wishes.
The above quote showcases Caribou’s villainy after he escaped from a barrel on Fish-Man Island and captured multiple mermaids, intending to sell them into slavery. One Piece fans were sure glad when Caribou’s luck finally ran dry, and Luffy swiftly knocked him out.
6. “Then With That Ability, I Could Peep On Wo…”
Sanji
Unfortunately, Sanji is no stranger to saying something problematic, and it turns out he has one other dream aside from finding the All Blue. During the Thriller Bark arc, Sanji faces Absalom of the Thriller Bark pirates, who was trying to force Nami into marrying him.
Absalom has the Clear-Clear Fruit, which essentially allows him to become invisible. This deeply angers Sanji, as it is the same Devil Fruit he has wanted since he was little. He wants this ability so he can use it to spy on women. Although he tries to deny it, Sanji’s off-putting “dream” is low, even by his standards.
5. “May I See Your Panties?”
Brook
A fan favorite of many, the Straw Hats’ skeletal musician is not immune to being the mouthpiece of Oda’s particular sense of humor. Having spent 50 years of his life alone at sea as a resurrected skeleton man, it’s not hard to see why Brook is so overjoyed once he meets the Straw Hats.
Brook’s distasteful question seemed like something that could’ve been hand-waved as a symptom of being alone for many years. But, regrettably, it remained as an almost pseudo catchphrase whenever Brook meets a pretty lady. At the very least, Brook doesn’t take it any farther than this and knows how to take no for an answer.
4. “My Nose Hairs Look Like This!”
Wanze
A strange one-off character, Wanze was a member and cook of Cipher Pol 7 and specialized in making ramen noodles. When a few of the Straw Hats ran into this minor antagonist during the Water 7 arc, Wanze gleefully demonstrated how he cooks his noodles.
First, Wanze puts flour in his mouth to knead it. Next, he shoots noodles out of his nose. Finally, he mixes it in a bowl of hot soup, proudly showing it to the Straw Hats. After seeing this, the Straw Hats understandably rejected his snot noodles. There may be a reason why fans choose not to bring up Wanze’s gross comment when discussing their favorite moments.
3. “I Didn’t Care For The Girl Who Had Rejected Me!”
Hogback
Hogback was an evil surgeon who stood as an affront to everything Chopper held sacred as a doctor. He helped Gecko Moria create his zombie army on Thriller Bark, but he required something in exchange for his employment.
Obsessed with an actress named Cindry, who had died, Hogback wanted to revive her and make her his servant. Hogback even horribly stated that he did not care for Cindry’s original personality. By stealing Cindry’s corpse and using Gecko Moria’s powers, this immoral task was easily accomplished. Although Hogback has been missing for some time, hopefully, he will get his just deserts when he reappears again.
2. “Okay! I’m Making You My Wife!”
Saint Charloss
One Piece fans are more than familiar with the tyrannical Celestial Dragons and are especially familiar with the dimwitted Saint Charloss. When he was first introduced, Charloss was riding on top of a malnourished enslaved person and demanding that everyone bow before him.
Suddenly, a doctor and a nurse cross Charloss’ path while carrying a wounded man. Charloss walks over and kicks the unconscious patient from his stretcher while declaring that the nurse is now his wife. Then, Charloss shoots her fiancée after he tries to save her. A shining example of how awful the Celestial Dragons are, viewers are always happy to see Charloss slugged in the face whenever he shows up.
1. “You Will Never Live With Any Man But Me!”
Vander Decken IX
Considered the lowest of the low, even compared to other One Piece villains, Vander Decken proves himself to be incredibly problematic when he sees a young Shirahoshi and vows to make her his bride once she’s old enough. After Shirahoshi unsurprisingly rejects his advances, Vander decides to stalk her and throw axes at her until she finally accepts his marriage proposal.
Vander even plots to bring ruin to all of Fish-Man Island, proclaiming that if he can’t have her, no one can. One Piece fans were glad to say good riddance to this character when the Straw Hats put an end to his plans and saved the day.
