The Lilywhites have been in dialogue with the 21-year-old’s representatives regarding a summer transfer but there is the potential for a deal to be struck before January’s 11pm deadline on Tuesday night.
Tottenham transfer news – Piero Hincapie
Links between Spurs and Hincapie are nothing new, with Christian Falk telling GiveMeSport earlier this month that the north London club ‘have their eye’ on the Ecuador international ahead of a potential summer swoop – while also mentioning Arsenal and Chelsea as potential suitors.
And Alasdair Gold recently confirmed the Lilywhites’ interest on his Youtube channel, but warned that any deal would likely need to take place at the end of the season with Leverkusen reluctant to sell the 6 foot centre-half.
This comes after The Sun reported Leverkusen’s valuation to be a staggering £80m, while describing the youngster as being high on Conte’s wishlist.
However, Football Insider have claimed Tottenham are in talks to sign Hincapie in a ‘deadline-busting deal’ and Taylor believes a move before the January transfer window slams shut could be possible.
What has Ryan Taylor said about Tottenham and Piero Hincapie?
Speaking to GiveMeSport, Taylor claimed that Tottenham have already held discussions with the centre-back’s representatives and suggested that Spurs could look to land him this month under the right circumstances.
Taylor told GMS: “There’s been a lot of dialogue with his representatives over a deal, they’re trying to sort of lay the groundwork for a summer move. But if Spurs feel like they can get him this month for an affordable price, I don’t see why they wouldn’t.”
Do Tottenham need a centre-back?
You probably wouldn’t bat an eye-lid if Tottenham went into the second half of the season without adding a centre-back to their ranks.
Conte already has a number of options at his disposal, namely Cristian Romero, Clement Lenglet, Eric Dier, Ben Davies, Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga.
But it’s clear that something isn’t quite right at the back for Tottenham – they’ve conceded the most goals of any side in the Premier League’s top twelve this season.
And considering Conte’s system requires three centre-backs, they’re very much the foundation that the rest of the team is built upon.
Bringing in an upgrade would certainly help as Tottenham look to push their way back into the top four, while Hincapie offers clear potential to improve in the future.
Whether Leverkusen can be convinced to sell at an agreeable price, however, still remains to be seen.
