With roughly a week to go until the NBA’s annual trade deadline, speculation regarding the NBA’s hottest trade targets is expected to grow rapidly over the next couple of days.
One such target is Raptors swingman OG Anunoby, who has been described as ‘unhappy’ with his current situation in Toronto. The 25-year-old forward is having one of his best seasons to date as a pro and is a player who would with virtually every lineup in basketball.
So, it’s no surprise that OG has become one of the most coveted players in basketball — but which teams are in the strongest position to actually land the two-way specialist?
Multiple Playoff Contenders In The Hunt For Anunoby
According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, at least four teams could be in the race for Anunoby, including the Suns, Knicks, Pelicans, and Indiana Pacers.
“He hurt his wrist in the Warriors game on Friday and it looked like a serious injury. So he’s been ruled out for the remainder of their road trip which runs through February 5th. I’m told it is not considered to be a super serious injury and there’s a chance he could even play when the team returns from that trip in Toronto. But definitely a curious response there from Nick Nurse. I’m told the Suns, the Knicks – they’re still teams to look at but I would also pay attention to the Pelicans, the Pacers, they’ve also registered some interest. There’s a group of four of five teams that will continue to be involved as we get closer to February 9th.”
According to various sources, the Raptors intend to wait until the end of their road trip before making any serious decisions on the roster. So, for now, OG is safe. But if the right deal comes along in the closing hours or minutes of NBA trade season, don’t be surprised if GM Masai Ujiri makes a move.
Besides the Suns, Knicks, Pelicans, and Pacers, the Grizzlies and Trail Blazers have been tied to OG, whose price is reported to be as high as multiple first-round picks.
For now, all we can do is wait and watch it all unfold, but you can bet teams across the league are scrambling to figure out which of their players need to stay and which need to go ahead of the deadline.
