The attempted rape, assault and coercive control charges against the Manchester United forward were dropped on Thursday, a year after he was first arrested
Manchester United forward Greenwood, 21, was first arrested at his home in January last year.
Greenwood was due to stand trial in November, but on Thursday a statement from Greater Manchester Police confirmed that the CPS had dropped all the charges against him.
The CPS said that they decided to discontinue the prosecution in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors, with the case placed under “continuous review”.
France defender Varane announces international retirement at 29
France centre-back Raphael Varane, a World Cup winner in 2018 and runner-up last year, announced today his retirement from international duty at the age of 29.
“I’ve been thinking about it for several months and I decided it was the right time for me to retire from international football,” Varane wrote on Instagram.
The Manchester United defender made his France debut in 2013 and won 93 caps for Les Bleus. He had been in the running to take over as captain following the retirement of Hugo Lloris last month.
Manchester United new boy Marcel Sabitzer has confessed he is a ‘very bad loser’ and has pledged to give everything to bring silverware to Old Trafford this season.
Asked in his first interview since joining about his win-at-all-costs mentality, Sabitzer said: ‘Of course, keep going every day, put it all out [there] in training sessions, that’s why I’m here.
‘I like the way he [Ten Hag] plays, his teams play, he’s a good coach and I’m looking forward to meeting him and playing under him.
‘I’m a very bad loser. Even in training, I can’t lose. I have that mentality over the years, I hate to lose.’
The former RB Leipzig captain said he wouldn’t be afraid to criticise team-mates if they weren’t performing to the expected standards.
‘That is my mentality; to go forward, have a voice in the dressing room, on the pitch and give it all. That’s normal for me,’ he added.
Taking a squad number previously held by Andreas Pereira, now at Fulham, the Austrian added to Man United’s official website: ‘I will give my all for the jersey.
‘I’m very happy to be here, I will give my best and we will see what happens, but I am here to win trophies.
Manchester United is a big club with fantastic fans. Old Trafford is a big stadium, I’ve played there once – it was empty – but I felt it was very nice.
‘It’s a great feeling to have the badge on my chest and I’m looking forward.’
Diago Dalot injury boost as Bruno Fernandes welcomes competition for places
Manchester United have received an injury boost as Diogo Dalot has reportedly returned to training after a three-week lay-off.
The 23-year-old was forced off with a hamstring injury in United’s 3-0 victory over Charlton in the Carabao Cup on January 10.
However, as per MEN, Dalot has now resumed training at United after remaining sidelined for around three weeks.
According to Bruno Fernandes, the Portugal international will return to full fitness soon as he expects more competition for places in the first-team.
Fernandes said (as per The Athletic): “We are really happy for the team that it gets more and more players fit.
“Diogo is training also with us and will probably be fully fit really soon and that is really good because the manager has more options.”
