A clumsy baby elephant needed a little help from his big sister and her trunk after sliding into a mud puddle.
The calf made an attempt to rise up with his front legs after rolling around in the mud at a watering hole in the Kruger National Park in Sᴏᴜᴛʜ Aғʀɪᴄᴀ.
He appeared to be getting assistance from an adult, yet he nevertheless fell into the deep puddle. The calf struggled in the muck, sinking, slipping, and wriggling as it seemed to try to catch the attention of another elephant.
After a little delay, his older sister cautiously walked backwards to help him when she spotted him trying to rise. The older elephant used her trunk to help the smaller one out of the slippery puddle. He was able to get on solid ground and quickly caught up to his mother, who was in charge of the herd.
Photographer Edrich Schafer said that they came across a herd of elephants near a watering well and decided to spend some time watching these magnificent creatures go about their everyday lives. In particular, one baby elephant attracted notice. When they came upon the male young elephant, he was resting down in the dirt. After a mud bath, he seemed to want to stand up.
Mr. Schafer found it hilarious and couldn’t help but feel sorry for the little elephant. One of the baby elephant’s many sisters in the breeding herd, the young female started to sᴛᴇᴀʟthily recede until she was in the right place. He stated it was great to witness the young elephant emerge from the muck appearing pretty relieved and immediately return to his mother.
