Luke Shaw ended up providing the match winning assist in Manchester United’s 2-1 victory at home to Crystal Palace.
Shaw’s low cross was converted by England international teammate Marcus Rashford, who netted his 19th goal of the season.
This was Shaw’s third assist of the season, with the defender back to his more natural left-back position after an impressive run at centre-back.
Defensively, Shaw really had to dig in late on as United held off a resurgent Palace after being reduced to 10 men.
Shaw praised
Shaw sent a short message on Instagram after United’s victory, hailing the ‘team spirit’ which saw the side hold on to grab all three points.
His teammates didn’t disappoint, with Marcus Rashford sending Shaw a message to thank him for the assist.
Lisandro Martinez also reached out, lauding Shaw as a ‘top top player’.
Martinez knows just how good Shaw is, playing alongside him on the left-side of Manchester United’s defence for much of the season.
He even had to watch from the bench for most of the Manchester derby with Shaw keeping him sidelined when he filled in at centre-half.
Shaw’s performances have been worthy of praise in recent months, but compliments from his World Cup winning teammate will mean a lot more than most.
Manchester United players ‘do not want Mason Greenwood back in dressing room’
Manchester United players are reportedly against the idea of welcoming Mason Greenwood back into the dressing room for the remainder of the season.
The former England international was included on the Red Devils’ updated Premier League squad list following the end of the January transfer window, but according to The Sun, Erik ten Hag‘s players are not keen on the idea of his return due to the effect it could have on the team’s harmony.
A source allegedly told the publication: “The players are open to him returning to the team but the scrutiny could be massively distracting. The dressing room is the happiest it has been for ages and no one wants to rock the boat.”
Without Greenwood in the team, Man United have taken 42 points from 21 Premier League games this season to sit third in the table – eight points behind leaders Arsenal and just three worse off than Manchester City.
Ten Hag’s side recorded their sixth successive home win in the top flight with a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday, but Greenwood is still collecting £100,000 a week in wages while he remains suspended.
Greenwood has registered 35 goals and 12 assists in 129 games for Man United, and his last appearance for the club came in a 1-0 win over West Ham United on January 22 of last year.
