Antonio Conte sent his congratulations in a phone call with Harry Kane after the Tottenham star became the club’s all-time top goalscorer.
Kane netted his 267th goal for Spurs during their 1-0 win at home to Manchester City, surpassing club legend Jimmy Greaves in the process.

And Conte congratulated the player on the phone after the match
“It’s a really surreal feeling right now,” Kane said after the match. “To do it here in front of the home fans, to win the game, everything just went right tonight.
“I’m sure I’ll take it all in. My wife, my family and friends were here so it’s a really proud moment but it definitely feels sweeter getting the three points and that was the most important thing today.”
Conte wasn’t in attendance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as he’s recovering from surgery to remove his gallbladder earlier in the week.
But he was able to send his best wishes to Kane, the Italian heard saying ‘you make me proud’ to his striker in a conversation on the phone while the 29-year-old was sat in the dressing room.
Kane’s winner was also his 200th in the Premier League and he’ll now be eyeing Alan Shearer’s record of 260 in the competition.
And Conte’s assistant, Cristian Stellini, is in no doubt about Kane’s iconic status.
“Harry Kane, in his DNA, he has football,” Stellini said. “He understands football in every moment. He can play in any position. He is a GOAT in this league, in this sport. He is a great example.”
It was a difficult match for Kane’s opposite number, Erling Haaland, who failed to have a shot in a Premier League game for the first time at Man City. The Norwegian also failed to have a single touch in Tottenham’s box.
And talkSPORT’s Darren Ambrose believes Kane offers more in his all-round game than the City man but suggested that the 22-year-old could find the net more times in his career.
“Harry Kane is a better footballer,” Ambrose said on The Boot Room. “Who will end up scoring more goals? Probably Erling Haaland depending on how long he plays for, the longevity of his career.”
Kane, who also received some congratulations from Greaves’ son Danny post-match, is the hero of the hour at Spurs
Haaland really struggled at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, however
Ambrose added: “He is an out-and-out goalscorer – scores different types of goals where he can use his power.
“But a lot of his goals are from between the six-yard and the penalty box, where he’s always reading the situation.
“He’s reading the bounce, the knock down, he’s a great finisher. Harry Kane is a different king of centre-forward.
“He’ll drop deep, he’ll have more assists than Erling Haaland, he’s a better player than Erling Haaland.
“Haaland, I can’t even say he’s a better goalscorer yet, but depending on the longevity of his career, he could end up with more goals than Harry Kane.”
