After a lukewarm box office collection, DC’s James Gunn and Peter Safran have decided to sever their connection with Dwayne Johnson, confirming that he will no longer play Black Adam in future DCU projects. This came as a huge heartbreak to the actor because after 10 years the actor finally got to play the antihero on the silver screen. Johnson’s farewell to Black Adam and DC was reflective of how much he cared for the film, unfortunately, it did not work out.
DCU announced many movie titles and shows revealing the start of chapter one. It is just the first step to realizing Gunn and Safran’s vision for the newly revitalized studio.
Dwayne Johnson will continue to appear in DCU
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson
In a recent tweet, the Black Adam star gave his fans an update on the film and his negotiations with the DCU heads. He has been trying to figure out a way through which DCU and the actor can continue working together.
“My passionate friends, I wanted to give you a long-awaited Black Adam update regarding the character’s future in the new DC Universe. James Gunn and I connected, and Black Adam will not be in their first chapter of storytelling. However, DC and Seven Bucks have agreed to continue exploring the most valuable ways Black Adam can be utilized in future DC multiverse chapters,”
Dwayne Johnson with ex-wife Dany Garcia
This tweet has raised many questions in the mind of fans as Johnson suggests that DCU and his collaboration has not come to an end. Seven Bucks is Johnson’s’ production company which he runs with his ex-wife, Dany Garcia. If Seven Bucks continues to work with DC Studios, there is a high chance that The Rock will re-appear in DCU. Given that only chapter one has been revealed and Gunn has been holding his card close to him, maintaining secrecy like Marvel used to back in the day, one can never say what will be his next move.
James Gunn confirms collaboration with Dwayne Johnson?James Gunn
The co-head of DC replied to Johnson’s tweet positively, possibly confirming that the DCU is not closing its door to anyone or anything yet. Even though they have made some bold and drastic changes in the franchise, everyone is eager to collaborate with them. After Johnson penned down the emotional tweet, Gunn replied by saying,
“Love @TheRock & I’m always excited to see what he & Seven Bucks do next. Can’t wait to collaborate soon,”
Gunn’s reply seems very strategic, and directly states an intent for collaboration. Even though one project did not work out, it should not close its door for any other possible projects with a global star like Johnson, especially because no one actually knows Gunn’s plans for the DCU. According to the DC slate, there are five new movies and five new TV shows that will kick off DCU’s new chapter and set sail for the 10-year plan that is envisioned by Gunn and Safran.
