Russell Westbrook’s game has some notable flaws at this stage of his career. He turns the ball over a lot, isn’t a great shooter, and is no longer the supreme athlete who could finish with ease at the rim. Still, he has shown he can be a solid contributor on the court, despite all the criticism that has come his way.
While criticizing his play is still fair, what isn’t, is questioning his character. Westbrook was termed a ‘Vampire in the locker room.’ after he was traded by the Los Angeles Lakers, which led to a groundswell of support for him. His wife blasted ESPN for the report while the likes of Carmelo Anthony and Donovan Mitchell weren’t happy with it either.
Draymond Green defended Russ as well, as he stated that he knows Westbrook does not have bad character. Support has been coming from all corners, with Taylor Rooks revealing that Westbrook gave hotel staff at the Bubble huge tips as she called him a genuinely good human.
In the NBA Bubble, Russ reportedly left around a 10k tip for the housekeepers at the hotel. When I asked him about it he said he left a big one but wouldn’t confirm the amount. “the money doesn’t matter. I just like to do the right thing”A genuinely good human.
She said that in response to Shaun Powell, who stated that Westbrook, Draymond, and Stephen Curry are the names that always come up when he asks locker room attendants about the players who give the most tips and their time. This whole vampire narrative has just come out of nowhere and it’s unfortunate that someone within that locker room felt the need to take such a shot at Russ.
Russell Westbrook Is Willing To Play For The Utah Jazz
When the Lakers traded Russ to the Jazz, it seemed like a foregone conclusion that they would buy out the rest of his contract. It appears though, that the Jazz haven’t decided just yet on what they plan to do with Westbrook.
Their GM Justin Zanik stated that they met with Russ as well as his representatives and are open to every possibility. He also added that Westbrook has expressed a willingness to play for the Jazz. If he does eventually end up getting bought out, then the Chicago Bulls have emerged as the frontrunner for his services.
