While taking a bath, this baby elephant became mired in the mud and had to be extricated by its mother’s massive trunk.
The infant elephant was swimming peacefully when it became stuck and struggled to pull itself out of the water.
The mother approached the infant and lifted the three-month-old calf out and brought it to safety using her own trunk as a crane. The sᴄᴇɴᴇ was very touching and the mother’s trunk was so powerful. The young elephant was able to leave the watering hole once it had finally reached dry land.
While visiting Hwange National Park in Zɪᴍʙᴀʙᴡᴇ to photograph elephants, photographer Ken Watkins from Greyton, Sᴏᴜᴛʜ Aғʀɪᴄᴀ, saw the incident.
This 64-year-old guy claimed that the national park occasionally saw small elephants fall into the river, and this particular elephant was unable to swim away. The rest of the herd had already fled, and the mother was straining to liberate the calf.
He was concerned about the calf, but its mother quickly pulled it out of the water. The mother dragged the calf to safety and they both strolled out into the distance to dry off. It was a truly lovely sighting, and everyone would adore it.
