MCU has again started building up its plot for phases 5 and 6 with their upcoming movie Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania after a somewhat slow plot design in phase 4, and now it seems that Marvel Studios has no intention of stopping in their tracks to again produce multi-billion dollar movies. And it is only a matter of time before Kevin Feige completely decimates his previously set records as President of Marvel Studios.
As Marvel Studios has reigned over the superhero franchise all this time, their oldest competitor DCU will also be stepping in to go head-to-head with MCU with the help of their newly appointed co-chairman James Gunn as he has set big goals for the upcoming years. Kevin Feige in an interview has said that Gunn will surely be their biggest obstacle even after ousting Cavill’s Superman.

Kevin Feige Grew Up With Superman Posters On His Wall
In Phase 5, Marvel Studios will be releasing the third and final movie of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 directed by James Gunn. Those who think that it might cause a rift between MCU and DCU could never be more wrong as Kevin Feige himself said that he always looks forward to Gunn’s creation and further mentioned that he grew up loving DC characters and even had Superman posters all over his wall. In an exclusive interview with EW, when Kevin Feige was asked about the Gunn situation, he said,
“It was not dissimilar to when we talked about him doing The Suicide Squad. I said, “That’s awesome, and I can’t wait to see it.” I’ve never been shy about loving those characters. I had Supermanposters all over my walls in my childhood bedroom, and I went to work for the Donners, [film producers] Richard Donner and Lauren Shuler Donner, because of Superman. The notion of those characters being in such good hands with James is exciting, and it’s very cool — after he finishes Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, of course.”

Kevin Feige further shared that in the upcoming movie, introducing Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror was something they thought up a long time ago because he was not only a villain limited to only one universe but wreaked havoc simultaneously in multiple universes. And it was their way to permanently introduce the concept of the multiverse that was prominently missing from the well-developed MCU. Kang the Conqueror will be the main and the only antagonist, and supervillain for the next 2 phases and he alone is enough to start a multiversal war.
James Gunn’s Take On Ousting Henry Cavill’s Superman
Henry Cavill made his return as Superman in the latest DCU installment Black Adam after Zack Snyder made his exit from DCEU a long time ago. As Cavill was part of Snyder’s Justice League, the then-DC also terminated Henry Cavill’s contract as Superman. But with Dwayne Johnson’s influence, he added Cavill’s cameo in his movie. But it was only a short-lived dream for all Cavill’s fans as, as soon as Gunn was appointed to DC, the first thing he did was disregard Snyder’s Justice League along with many of the actors that portrayed the superheroes.

James Gunn received much heat for this situation which forced him to make an official statement where he said to The Hollywood Reporter,
“We didn’t fire Henry. Henry was never cast. For me, it’s about who do I want to cast as Superman and who do the filmmakers we have want to cast. And for me, for this story, it isn’t Henry. I like Henry, I think he’s a great guy, I think he’s getting d*cked around by a lot of people, including the former regime at this company. But this Superman is not Henry, for a number of reasons.”
Gunn shared his side of the story as, to many fans and other viewers it might seem that James Gunn fired Henry Cavill from his role as Superman but in reality, Cavill’s contract with DC ended after Snyder left the franchise and he was further never cast for portraying Superman. Gunn also shared that what happened with Henry Cavill was obviously very unprofessional from their side but it had to be done as for reviving this dying universe, Gunn was specially appointed for this sole reason.
