Surges started and came on stronger as the snow began to fall outside. By the time I arrived, she began shaking with some of the harder contractions, and I could tell we were getting close. She got in the tub. She got out. She stood beside her bed and birthed her baby right into her husband’s hands.
It was messy and perfect. Her baby girl was born en caul.
And then they all snuggled in bed. Simple, hard, redeeming, beautiful.”
