Paris Saint-Germain’s 4-3 comeback win over Lille OSC on Sunday at the Parc des Princes came at a cost as Neymar Jr. exited the contest after suffering an ankle injury in the second half.
After the capital club came back from a 3-2 deficit with goals from Kylian Mbappe and a stoppage-time game-winner from Lionel Messi, the attention turned to the status of Neymar. Mbappe did provide support to his teammate on an Instagram story post.
Meanwhile, PSG manager Christophe Galtier did provide an update on Neymar and Nuno Mendes’ health status after two players left the contest with injuries.
“Neymar is suffering from a sprained right ankle,” Galtier told reporters postgame. “He left for tests to find out his seriousness. Nuno Mendes has stretched the internal lateral ligament a little but it does not seem very serious to me.
“For injuries, it is never due to chance. There are always reasons for injuries: the calendar, the sequence of matches. But that complicates things. It is necessary to make the round back, but this Sunday, it is with a victory. It’s more pleasant.”
The question over Neymar will now be if he can be fully fit for the second leg match against Bayern Munich on March 8 at the Allianz Arena. If the 31-year-old cannot go for the game, then the offensive responsibilities will fall on Mbappe and Messi to lead the squad out of the 1-0 hole.
