A U.S. Coast Guard crew rescued a dog that fell through the ice into the Detroit River over the holiday weekend, officials said.
USCG Sector Detroit called for a “round of appaws” for Petty Officer Cole Harper and the boat crew that successfully rescued the struggling dog, according to a Facebook post.
The crew from Station Belle Isle was underway when they spotted the dog struggling in the water near Grayhaven Island, the post said.
The dog was removed from the water and wrapped in blankets, the post said. She was later turned over to Detroit Animal Care and Control.
