Ja Morant has been in the news very frequently as of late, due to an incident where the young point guard was on Instagram Live with a firearm in his hand. There is no doubt that this situation has caused a lot of speculation among analysts and fans, as many are waiting to see what the league does about the matter.

Amidst all the controversy and media noise, Patrick Beverley sent some support to Ja Morant on a recent episode of The Pat Bev Podcast with Rone, noting that the league needs the young superstar.
“He’s changing the game, he’s opening the doors for people his size, his athleticism… You have to carry yourself a certain way.” Beverley stated. “The NBA needs Ja. He’s the face of the new culture.”
Though there has been a lot of criticism towards Ja Morant in the aftermath of the gun being spotted, it is clear that Patrick Beverley is taking a different approach. He is right about Ja Morant being the face of the “new culture” among younger NBA players, and that obviously comes with responsibilities and an expectation to act like a professional.
Hopefully, we see Ja Morant learn from this situation, and avoid doing things like this in the future. He still has a long career ahead of him, and he must do his best to not let off-court issues derail his career.
Ja Morant Could Get Suspended For 50 Games
As of right now, Ja Morant is away from the Memphis Grizzlies, and it seems as though he could end up getting suspended by the NBA as well. A recent report revealed that Morant could end up getting an “automatic 50-game suspension” if it is found that he brought the gun on the team plane.
“Basically, the CBA says if there is a firearm on team premises (or on a team plane), that’s an automatic 50-game suspension,” Stein explained on the #thisleague UNCUT podcast. “That’s why the league is trying to ascertain where the gun was before the Instagram video and all other manners of questions tied to that.”
There is no doubt that this is a long suspension, but the CBA is something that both franchises and players have to follow. It will definitely be interesting to see what the league investigation finds. There could also be legal consequences as well, as the Colorado Police have also started an investigation into the point guard. It remains to be seen what ends up happening, and this is definitely a situation to be monitored in the coming days and weeks.
