Alejandro Garnacho left Old Trafford on crutches after Manchester United’s draw against Southampton.
Garnacho started on the bench on Sunday afternoon and he replaced Jadon Sancho in the 73rd minute. He was soon forced to receive medical treatment after appearing to get caught between Kyle Walker-Peters’ legs.
The youngster attempted to continue and he returned to the pitch, but he was eventually substituted off with a minute of normal time remaining. He then headed straight down the tunnel and left the stadium on crutches.
The extent of Garnacho’s injury is not yet known but Erik ten Hag was asked for an update on the player after the game.
Ten Hag told MUTV: “Yes, he had a bad tackle. His ankle was twisted. I didn’t take the risk and I took him off.”
Garnacho has made 15 appearances in the Premier League this season and four of those have been starts. The 18-year-old is close to signing a new deal to extend his Old Trafford stay.

Garnacho came on in the 73rd minute but he was taken off in added time and headed straight down the tunnel.
The 18-year-old required treatment during the game after a challenge by Southampton right-back Kyle Walker-Peters.
Although Garnacho’s injury had partly enforced his removal, Ten Hag clarified his removal was also tactical. “He was limping a little bit after a bad tackle.
“So in the end I thought they bring on another striker, a tall one, I don’t want to go for a risk, we were already down to 10, to go to maybe 90%, that’s why I took him off but I think it’s not too bad.”
United travel to Spain in midweek for their Europa League round-of-16 second leg against Real Betis and host Fulham in the FA Cup quarter-final on Sunday.
Garnacho was called up to the Argentina squad for their friendlies against Panama and Curacao later this month.
Although United have won only three of their last eight Premier League fixtures, Ten Hag was content with their performance on an afternoon they played an hour with 10 men after Casemiro was sent off.
“Let’s make that point: once again, this team showed big spirit, team spirit, good fighting spirit, supporting each other,” Ten Hag said. “Played with 11 (players) and with 10 a good level.
“We played in the week, they didn’t, we were a 10, I think we defended well, we had good counter breaks, we had some good attacks, some good opportunities.
“The strike from Bruno (Fernandes) on the post, of course I have seen the strike from them on the post. There was a mistake they get a counter on a corner, David (de Gea) saved.
“But overall, the performance was quite well and you’re disappointed you only collect one point.”
