Tom Cruise reveals which stunt from the Mission: Impossible franchise terrified his mother. Cruise has starred as IMF agent Ethan Hunt in the Mission: Impossible film series since 1996 and, over the years, has pulled off increasingly bold and daring stunts. Some of his most dangerous and famous feats include climbing the Burg Khalifa in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and hanging off the side of a plane in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, the fifth film in the series that was released in 2015.
During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Cruise revealed that the plane stunt from Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation terrified his late mother, Mary Lee South, who passed away in 2017.
The Mission: Impossible star recalled showing his mother the stunt in which he hung off the side of an A400 aircraft, and she was understandably terrified by the feat and worried for her son’s safety. Read what Cruise shared below:
Every Stunt To Expect From Mission: Impossible 7 & 8
With each installment in the Mission: Impossible franchise, Cruise has continually found a way to top his past stunts, and the two-part franchise finale is expected to be no different. Releasing in theaters this summer, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One will feature Cruise’s most dangerous stunt ever. As revealed by the trailer and a following featurette, Cruise ramped off a cliff on a motorcycle, let go of the bike, and free-fell for several seconds before pulling his parachute.
While Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One will feature his most dangerous stunt to date, Cruise will likely top himself yet again with Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two, which could be his final film in the franchise when it releases in theaters next summer. Franchise director Christopher McQuarrie has teased that it will feature some of Cruise’s most ambitious stunts ever, close to that of his recent work in the hit Top Gun: Maverick. There aren’t any official details on the stunts, though set photos have shown Cruise paragliding off a mountain and dangling off the wing of an airplane. Only time will tell exactly what stunts the future of the Mission: Impossible franchise holds for Cruise.
