Erik ten Hag picked out five Manchester United players who really stood out for him in Manchester United’s win over Fulham.
United won 3-1 at Old Trafford with another come from behind win to book a place in the FA Cup semi-finals.
The big talking point of the game was the Fulham reaction to a penalty awarded against them, which led to their manager and two players being sent off.
Ten Hag chose to focus on United’s players, ignoring the Fulham meltdown.
Ten Hag picks out five United players
While many Manchester United fans felt it was a tough watch, the first hour at least, Erik ten Hag said he was pleased with his players.
Speaking to club media, Ten Hag picked out five players he felt were absolutely key to victory.
He named David de Gea, Antony, Jadon Sancho, Marcel Sabitzer and Bruno Fernandes for their roles in the win.
Ten Hag said: “As a team we performed really well; De Gea great saves, Antony with his great [cameo from the bench] because that attacking transition moment with Jadon Sancho, of course Marcel Sabitzer, and most of all I think Bruno Fernandes.
“He is the big leader, centre of the pitch, playmaking, [he had] a really good game and then finally he got his goal.”
Discussing De Gea further, he was particularly commending of United’s number one.
He said: “The first five or 10 minutes after half-time were really heavy, really tough. We conceded a goal and there were three big saves from David. We survived and then made a great transition moment and that was the key turning point in the game.”
Ten Hag’s satisfaction with his team came from the acknowledgement of the gruelling fixture list they find themselves up against.
He said: “We showed great character. It’s not that easy. We’ve played the most games of every team all over Europe, every third day, and every time we showed personality, resilience, determination to win the game, today was tough but we didn’t expect any different before the game because Fulham is a good team and you have to be good to outplay them.”
