The actress has explained the personal rule that can leave fans disappointed

As a lead star in one of the most beloved film franchises of our time, Emma Watson has an obsessive fan-base like only a few celebrities can understand.
Combine that with the ever-growing societal attitude that our experiences are only as valuable as the likes we get for them on social media, it’s clear the Harry Potter actress is under constantly growing pressure to pose for photos with her fans. But she doesn’t.
Explaining her strict personal policy in a new interview with Vanity Fair, the 26-year-old said it was concerns for her personal safety that prompted her to start saying ‘no’ when asked for a selfie with a member of the public.
“If someone takes a photograph of me and posts it, within two seconds they’ve created a marker of exactly where I am within 10 metres,” she told the magazine.
“They can see what I’m wearing and who I’m with. I just can’t give that tracking data.”
But not wanting her loyal fans to feel dismissed, Watson insisted she tries to give them something else, hopefully just as valuable: her undivided attention.
“I’ll say, ‘I will sit here and answer every single Harry Potter fandom question you have but I just can’t do a picture.’ I have to carefully pick and choose my moment to interact.”
The only exception, she said, is with kids.
“When am I a celebrity sighting versus when am I going to make someone’s freakin’ week? Children I don’t say no to, for example.”
Emma is on the publicity trail right now ahead of the release of the hotly-anticipated Beauty And The Beast live-action remake, in which she portrays Belle. A role, as you’ll see in the trailer below, she was born to play.
Beauty And The Beast hits cinemas on March 17.
