Real Madrid remain interested in Chelsea forward Kai Havertz and could make a move for him this summer if the Blues were open to negotiations, according to Defensa Central.
Los Blancos reportedly have a long-term interest in the Germany international and were in the race for the player when he was still at Bayer Leverkusen.
Obviously, Chelsea beat them to Havertz’s signature in 2020.
However, Real Madrid, who were said to be prepared to offer a figure close to Leverkusen’s €100million asking price if it was not for the financial issue due to the pandemic, continue to keep an eye on the versatile forward.
Defensa Central claims that Chelsea are under pressure to balance their accounts after their recent spending spree, and Havertz, whose contract runs until 2025, could then be available in the transfer market.
Interestingly, the report also mentions that Havertz is expected to be valued at just €60m (£52.5m), which is significantly lower than the £72m Chelsea reported spent for him almost three years ago.
Spanish journalist Ramon Alvarez de Mon adds that Real Madrid sees the 23-year-old as an attacking midfielder who makes dangerous runs into the box, rather than a centre forward, which is the role he has played for Chelsea in the last couple of years.
That said, Real Madrid reportedly see Havertz as an alternative to their priority target Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham.
The two players seem to have completely different profiles these days, but bear in mind that, like Bellingham, Havertz is naturally a number eight.
However, it seems unlikely that Chelsea would be open to selling Havertz, regardless of any potential financial pressure.
Blues manager Graham Potter clearly rates him very highly as shown by the player’s having played more minutes than any other Chelsea player in the Premier League this season.
Even if Chelsea were to sign a new striker in the summer, Havertz still offers a lot to the team in other attacking positions.
