Real Madrid are bracing themselves for a crucial summer ahead as they look to not only address the contract situation of some of the stars but also sign new players that can strengthen the team.
According to Tomas Gonzalez-Martin (h/t Madrid Xtra), Real Madrid have kickstarted their preparation for the season ahead and as part of their plans, the club go after at least two or three senior players.
There is no dearth of experienced stars in the current Real Madrid squad. The likes of Karim Benzema, Dani Carvajal, Toni Kroos, Nacho Fernandez and Luka Modric all play a critical role in the first team.
However, the continuity of these players has been questioned in recent times. While Nacho is reportedly considering leaving Santiago Bernabeu in the summer due to lack of game-time, both Modric and Benzema have been courted by Saudi Arabian clubs.
Kroos, too, has been flirting with the idea of early retirement. Therefore, Real Madrid are open to signing experienced players in the coming summer that can either replace the existing stars or complement the new-look squad.
In recent years, Real Madrid have been able to maintain an excellent balance between experience and youth. Not to mention, they have enjoyed success investing in senior players such as Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba, with Rudiger, in particular, impressing everyone at Bernabeu in his maiden season at the club.
While it must be noted that Real Madrid have been primarily linked with moves for youngsters such as Jude Bellingham, Josko Gvardiol and Gabri Veiga, it will be interesting to see what measures Real Madrid take, if they are to go after senior stars in the coming summer.
