Neymar’s sixth season at Paris Saint-Germain came to a sudden close last month. The Brazilian international suffered a season-ending ankle injury during PSG’s Ligue 1 home win against Lille OSC. He ended up undergoing surgery on his right ankle earlier this month.
During a pre-match press conference ahead of PSG’s Ligue 1 home contest against Olympique Lyonnais, manager Christophe Galtier took some time to provide an update on Neymar’s ankle ailment. Galtier noted that the Brazilian forward has not yet been cleared “to do much.”
“During this fortnight, he has been here twice to assess the condition of his post-op ankle,” Galtier said.
“Also to follow his recovery protocol. He obviously works closely with our medical staff. … When there are serious injuries like that, I’m more in favor of a message from time to time, but mostly let the player focus on his recovery. He is very sad to be injured, he is not yet in a state to do much.”
PSG announced on March 6 that Neymar will be cleared to return to training in three to four months.
Neymar was a standout performer for PSG this season. He still currently ranks second in goals contributions in Ligue 1 with 24. He also chipped in with two goals and two assists in PSG’s UEFA Champions League schedule this season.
