Now another animated movie’s live adaptation is in the works and has already been announced.
Dwayne Johnson has played several different roles in films and has often even voiced characters in animated features. Moana is one such movie that he is very fond of and loved giving his voice to one of its main characters. The film was released in the year 2016, and according to recent reports, a live-action movie will be soon arriving in theatres.

Recently, Dwayne Johnson announced on his Twitter handle that he is associating with Disney in making a live-action Moana film. The Rock will be reprising his voiced character of Maui, the grandiose demigod once again, in this remake. The film will be produced under the banner of Seven Bucks Productions of Dany Garcia, Dwayne Johnson, and Hiram Garcia, and Beau Flynn via Flynn picture co. Johnson has already released a statement to express his enthusiasm for bringing this beloved character on the screen into a live-action remake.
“This story is my culture, and this story is emblematic of our people’s grace and warrior strength. I wear this culture proudly on my skin and in my soul, and this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reunite with Maui, inspired by the mana and spirit of my late grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivia, is one that runs very deep for me. I want to thank my partners at Disney for their strong commitment to this special endeavor, because there is no better world for us to honor the story of our people, our passion, and our purpose than through the realm of music and dance, which is at the core of who we are as Polynesian people.”
Well, it would be great to see how this animated feature turns out to be in a remake.
Maui Is Inspired By Dwayne Johnson’s Grandfather
Dwayne Jonson’s voice-over character Maui in Moana
Dwayne Johnson’s character Maui holds a very special place in his heart, as the character is inspired by none other than his grandfather. It’s undeniable that often when we see Maui it resembles a bit of the Baywatch actor. Once a Twitter user posted a picture of grandpa and Maui together, that’s when Johnson explained the inspiration behind his character.
He revealed that the character was partly inspired by his grandfather who was the High Chief Peter Maivia of Samoa. His grandfather’s full name was Fanene Leifi Pita Maivia, but he was also known as Peter Maivia. He was a wrestler as well and started his wrestling career in 1962. Well, it’s often great to see characters being inspired by people in real life. As of now, casting details and the release date is still under wraps for Moana’s live-action feature.
