He and wife Susan welcomed their second child, daughter Avri, into the world earlier this month.
But Robert Downey Jr. devoted Saturday to their two-year-old son Exton.
The 49-year-old was spotted helping the little boy build a sandcastle while 41-year-old Susan sat nearby on the beach in Malibu.

The actor certainly didn’t waste any time getting in on the action and helping his son do some digging.
With his jeans rolled up, Robert got to work and headed into the ocean, filling up a bucket of water and bringing it back to shore.
His wife of nine years also got in on the fun, leaning in and doing her part digging out the sand.
She looked cute in her beach attire, wearing black leggings, a grey tank top and pink sweater.

Earlier this month, the couple welcomed their second child, a baby girl named Avri, and Robert announced her arrival on Facebook.
‘Yep…Avri Roel Downey joined the party @ 3:22 a.m. on November 4th,’ he wrote. ‘She’s 7 lbs even, spans 20 inches, and is accompanied by a variety of Susan’s traits that have seemingly overwritten my “junk DNA.”‘

The proud father joked: ‘After 9 months of intensive development, Team Downey is pleased to announce our 2014 fall/winter project.
‘Principal photography commenced 11-14 and will continue until she says, “Dad! You are embarrassing me… I’m 30, this has gotta stop.”
‘I’ll post pics here + there when I’m not too busy staring…’ he added.
The actor also has a 21-year-old son Indio from his previous marriage to actress Deborah Falconer.
