Donte DiVincenzo and Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors talk during a game against the Memphis Grizzlies at FedExForum on March 18 in Memphis, Tenn.
If you’ve ever waited in a long line at Disneyland, you’ve probably seen people playing Heads Up! to pass the time. It’s the cellphone version of charades, where players must guess the person, place or thing flashed up on the screen before time’s up. A recent game of Heads Up! was almost too easy for Golden State Warriors teammates Steph Curry and Donte DiVincenzo — right up until DiVincenzo hit Bay Area music legend Too Short.
In the clip posted by the Warriors, Curry is doing the guesswork while DiVincenzo provides the clues. Most of the topics are Warriors-adjacent, with Curry quickly guessing Klay Thompson, Shaun Livingston and fadeaway. But things got dicey when DiVincenzo had to give clues for Too Short. Clearly, it wasn’t the music icon who came first to DiVincenzo’s mind. Instead, he mimicked Patrick Beverley’s “too small” taunt of Chris Paul in December 2022.
“Pat Bev,” DiVincenzo says.
“Pat Bev did it,” he replies, to which Curry correctly answers, “Uh, too small?” That prompts DiVincenzo to ask Curry for synonyms of “small,” eventually landing Curry on “too short.” When Curry flips over the phone to see what the clue was, recognition dawns on his face as he bursts into laughter. “That was phenomenal,” he laughs.
DiVincenzo grew up in Delaware and played for Villanova, so maybe he’ll be given a pass, at least for now, for his hyphy faux pas.
On a more serious note, Sunday marks the last day of the regular season — and there’s a lot on the line for the Warriors. If they beat the Portland Trail Blazers, they’ll clinch a top six seed and avoid the stress of a play-in game. Tipoff against the Trail Blazers (33-48) is at 12:30 p.m.
