Cesar Azpilicueta has had some quotes about the potential appointment of Luis Enrique as Chelsea boss, and while the defender wasn’t being drawn and wouldn’t say much, it was interesting to get a sliver of feedback from him.
The quotes seem to come from El Chiringuito, perhaps the trashiest football show on earth but also one of the biggest.
When they asked Azpi if he would like Luis Enrique to manage Chelsea, he replied that it’s not down to him – “there are parts [of the club] who negotiate, that we trust with doing what is best for the club. We will see what happens.”
So far, so neutral. But he did add one little nugget that hinted he would be keen to see the former Barcelona and Spain coach appointed:
“My best games with the national team were with Luis Enrique as coach.”
“Lucho” was the man who called up Azpi up for Euro 2020, just when it looked like the versatile defender’s chances of playing for Spain again were done. Might he pull the same trick at Chelsea, just when it looks like a heroic run is coming to an end?
