Scarlett Johansson is an A-list actress who is beloved by many globally. Apart from being part of projects like Lost in Translation, Jojo Rabbit, and more, she is also MCU’s Black Widow and a part of the core Avengers team. As per Celebrity Net Worth, her wealth is estimated at $165 million. But there is one thing that Johansson hasn’t liked about her career.
The actress has often complained about being immensely s*xualized in Hollywood. She once feared that she was getting too pigeonholed in this role and that it could adversely affect her career. But once the Black Widow star talked about her s*xual fantasy that made all of her fans raise their eyebrows in surprise.
In a 2005 interview with Playboy magazine, Scarlett Johansson was asked about her s*xy dream. Her answer shocked many. She said, “I do think having s*x in a car is s*xy. If I were in a really raunchy frame of mind and thinking of doing something crazy and kinky and s*xy, the back seat would be it.”
However, more often than not, Johansson has been critical of the way she and other women have been portrayed in Hollywood. During an interview with Cosmopolitan she said that when women talk about s*x, they are sl*t shamed. She said, “When women talk about enjoying s*x, it’s almost forbidden. Just having a healthy s*xual attitude, you are labeled as loose, wild sl*t.”
On the Armchair Expert podcast with co-hosts Dax Shepard and Monica Padman, Scarlett Johansson discussed what it was like growing up in Hollywood while getting incessantly s*xualized at a young age. She said that since spent a tonne of time as a child around adults so she found herself in non-age-appropriate situations. However, she credits her mother for protecting her from a lot of those things. But Johansson admits that even she couldn’t “do that for everything.” The actress said:
“Because I think everybody thought I was older and I’d been [acting] for a long time and then I got kind of pigeonholed into this weird hyper-s*xualized thing. It was like, that’s the kind of career you have. These are the roles you’ve played and I was like, ‘This is it I guess.’”
Johansson has stated that the same thing happened when she joined the MCU in Iron Man 2 as well. During a Hello Beautiful interview, the actress stated that Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man referred to her as an object that he wanted. She said:
“While [Iron Man 2] was really fun and had a lot of great moments in it, the character is so sexualized, you know? [She is] really talked about like she’s a piece of something, like a possession or a thing or whatever – like a piece of ass, really. And Tony even refers to her as something like that at one point … ‘I want some.’”
While many MCU fans have argued that it was meant to show Tony Stark as a person who needed to become better, others have criticized the franchise for often putting Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff in revealing clothing. However, by the time Black Widow came around, all of those problems were addressed. Johansson is currently busy filming Asteroid City and Project Artemis.
Black Widow is streaming on Disney+.
