They say God moves in mysterious ways, revealing Himself in forms that we may fail to notice as we go about our daily lives.
However, it seems that the Good Lord took a slightly more direct approach with Mechaele Loraff, 46, from southwest Michigan as she was headed to work on Wednesday.
While driving past farmers’ fields that morning, Loraff happened to snap a picture of the sunrise shining through clouds and appearing to form a perfect cross.
Mechaele Loraff, 46, captured this image of a cross appearing in the clouds and illuminated by the sunrise while driving to work in Michigan on Wednesday this week
While Loraff said she had noticed the light was hitting the clouds in a strange way, she initially just notices the upright pillar of light.
It was not until she reviewed the image later that she discovered the horizontal beam which formed a complete cross.
She told Mlive.com: ‘It’s farm country out there, so when I came around the corner, I could see the sunrise and it was like a dome. From there, the light pillar was what caught my eye.
‘Seeing [the cross] later on my phone, it was one of those things you just have to share.’
Loraff posted the image to Facebook where it has since gone viral, being picked up by local news stations along the way.
While Loraff is unsure exactly how many people have seen the image, since it has been circulated by different outlets, some of the images have received hundreds of thousands of ‘likes’.
Hitting back against the usual accusations of fakery, Loraff added: ‘I took it with my iPhone 6. I’m not a computer geek. I have no idea how to edit or Photoshop a picture.’
Loraff (left and right) said that she initially wanted to capture the sunlight shining through a pillar of cloud, and only saw the full shape of the cross when she went back to look at the picture later
On the same day, another photographer, Amy Langley from the town of Koloa on the island of Kauai, Hawaii took a photo of the sunrise. But instead of a beautiful sunrise, Amy took a photo of a strange apparition in the sky what looks like an angel, a guardian angel.
