Last week, workers near the town of Suwałki in Poland heard something that caught their attention. Following the faint sound, they discovered a small dog barking non-stop for help under a distant bush.
The dog was lying underground, surrounded by darkness, making it unable to move. All it could do was bark loudly, seeking help from those around.
Unable to pull the dog out of the darkness on their own, the workers contacted Joanna Godlewska, a rescuer from the Animal Welfare Organization Niczyje. She and some colleagues rushed to the scene to immediately assess the situation.
“When I arrived, I saw a pitiful and desperate dog lying in the darkness, and I burst into tears.”
People believed that this was a small dog abandoned, and while wandering, it accidentally got tangled in the darkness. To move, the dog probably sat or lay down, inadvertently causing its entire body to become trapped.
No one knows how long the dog had been lying there, but when it was discovered, it was very weak and its barking voice was also very tired. If it had been found just one day later, it might have died.
Godlewska received assistance from the local fire department. During the rescue process, hope appeared in the eyes of the small dog, perhaps trusting that humans would save its life.
The rescue workers carefully cut away the fur stuck in the darkness and used cooking oil to loosen the adhesive. After many efforts, the dog was finally lifted up from the road.
The dog was then transferred to a veterinary station for treatment and to clean all the fur stuck in the darkness.
Luckily, the dog only suffered minor scratches on its face, and although it was exhausted, it is currently recovering well.
The dog also underwent several fur cleaning sessions, and each time, its spirit improved.
The dog was named Farcik. Farcik went through a life-and-death moment, but thanks to the relentless efforts, it was saved. Farcik is now loved by many people, and it is no longer scared and lonely.
Godlewska shared that when Farcik recovers, they will find a new home for the little guy.
The determination and survival instinct of the dog also serve as motivation for many people. Those who witnessed the rescue process were touched by the perseverance of a small dog.
