The pregnancy was a surprise for trans man Wyley Simpson, but his baby was born very healthy.
In a rare case, a trans man has given birth to a boy in Texas, in the United States. Little Rowan is the biological son of two men: trans man Wyley Simpson, 28, and his fiancé, Stephen Gaeth.
Wyley believed that he would not be able to get pregnant. He was born with a female body, but he always identified himself as a man. So at the age of 21, he started taking ᴛᴇsᴛᴏsᴛᴇʀᴏɴᴇ with my doctor’s guidance.
At age 23, he underwent ʙʀᴇᴀsᴛ-ʀᴇᴍᴏᴠᴀʟ sᴜʀɢᴇʀʏ. After years of ᴛᴇsᴛᴏsᴛᴇʀᴏɴᴇ ᴛʀᴇᴀᴛᴍᴇɴᴛ, Wyley was no longer menstruating, despite still having a ᴠᴀɢɪɴᴀ and ꜰᴇᴍᴀʟᴇ ʀᴇᴘʀᴏᴅᴜᴄᴛɪᴠᴇ ᴏʀɢᴀɴs.
Doctors told Wyley that it was impossible for him to get pregnant due to the high doses of ᴛᴇsᴛᴏsᴛᴇʀᴏɴᴇ he was taking and not having ᴘᴇʀɪᴏᴅs anymore. So the pregnancy was not a concern for Wyley and her fiancé, Stephen.
However, after starting to feel really nauseous, Wyley took a pregnancy test and found out she was 11 weeks pregnant! “I was surprised and very emotional; I started crying when I found out I was pregnant. I was also worried because I knew I would face a lot of prejudice for being a pregnant man, and I did. But it was all worth it in the end; I gave birth to my baby Rowan, and my fiancé and I are enjoying being parents.”
In September 2018, Wyley gave birth to baby Rowan, who was born weighing 3.4 kg and via C-sᴇᴄᴛɪᴏɴ. Now, the little one is four years old and is very healthy and fluffy.
Wyley said that although he did not regret getting pregnant and giving birth to his son, he does not intend to get pregnant again. “I plan to fully transition in the future to having male genitals. So the chances of me getting pregnant again are very low. But it was a very good feeling to carry my son in the womb, feel him move, and do the ultrasound exams. I’m grateful to have had a natural pregnancy, but I don’t want to get pregnant again.”
