Despite MCU struggling to reach the same heights with their recent projects like its pre-Endgame entries, they haven’t failed to do justice to one of their biggest asset Spider-Man. It’s safe to say that moving forward, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is going to be one of their major heroes to shape the upcoming phases. And considering the success of No Way Home, there is no doubt that Holland has cemented himself as the definitive web-slinger.
However, this might not have been the case, if one of the most beloved Avengers hadn’t recommended the young actor to the MCU before the release of Captain America: Civil War.
Chris Hemsworth was the reason behind Tom Holland landing the role of Spider-Man
Before Tom Holland cemented his name as one of the most successful and in-demand stars in the industry, Chris Hemsworth would play a major role in helping the actor build his successful career. While speaking with Entertainment Tonight, the Thor: Ragnarok star recalled the moment when he helped Holland to land one of the most iconic roles in the Superhero realm. Hemsworth expressed that after working alongside Holland in In the Heart of the Sea, he was impressed by the actor’s potential and did everything he could to land him the role of Spider-Man in MCU. Hemsworth said,
“I mean, look, we worked on In the Heart of the Sea together, obviously, then through Avengers and as they were casting him for Spider-Man, I did what I could do and made a call and said he’s one of the most talented people I’ve worked with and has such a big heart and appreciation… we have a great friendship, it’s a good mutual respect.”
Tom Holland was left in complete awe after hearing how his fellow MCU star helped him in garnering his biggest role and expressed his gratitude by saying, “Aw, did he? Well, he’s my hero in life”. But even though Holland’s future in the MCU is looking pretty strong, on the flip side, the Strongest Avenger might not continue to play the character for long.
Despite the failure of Thor: Love and Thunder, it’s safe to say that Chris Hemsworth alongside Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans, is one of the building blocks of the MCU. But even though he is one of the few members that are left from the original Avengers, we might soon get to witness his departure too. The Men in Black: International actor once expressed that his next entry as the God of Thunder might be his last by stating,
“I feel like we’d probably have to close the book if I ever did it again, you know what I mean? I feel like it probably warrants that. I feel like it’d probably be the finale, but that’s not based on anything anyone’s told me or any sort of plan. You have this birth of a hero, the journey of a hero, then the death of a hero, and I don’t know — am I at that stage? Who knows?”
Although it might be a hard pill to swallow to witness Thor’s departure from the MCU, it might be the right move to cement Chris Hemsworth’s legacy in the MCU just like RDJ and Evans. However, Holland is set to return in his upcoming fourth entry, and following the ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans are engrossed to witness how his story unfolds.
