The Los Angeles Lakers lost a big game against the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night, missing a good chance to close this series out and advance to the Western Conference Finals.
Anthony Davis’ unexpected and scary head injury opened the door for the Dubs to secure this game and extend the series for at least one more game. Now, everybody’s attention is on Anthony Davis’ health.
Even though he avoided a concussion last night, Brian Windhorst reports that the Lakers are going to run tests on Davis today as they want to clear everything ahead of Game 6.
“He [Davis] will be continued to be evaluated today to see if he developed symptoms. Every concussion situation is different. None are the same, you can’t make assumptions. If you make assumptions, you end up looking wrong.
“The other thing is, it’s not necessarily the way he feels, there’s a series of tests they put him through… If he goes to the concussion protocol, it is not a matter of how he’s feeling, or whether he can play through things. There’s a predetermined list with determined guidelines that take time. If he goes in the protocol today, Game 6 almost 100%, he won’t be able to play no matter what. Not up to him, not up to anything. And even Game 7, because of the return to play protocols, I would say, in my experience, very unlikely.”
Windhorst adds that the Lakers will need to submit their injury report today, and this will define if Davis is good to go tomorrow or if this is the end of the series for him. A concussion isn’t something to joke about, and the Lakers should be extremely careful with this.
Of course, things could get ugly for the Purple and Gold if Davis ends up getting a concussion, but everybody is hoping that he is fine and ready to go tomorrow night.
Davis’ Potential Absence Could Change Everything In This Series
The Warriors played great basketball in Game 5, but Davis’ injury also played a role in their win. The Dubs have struggled to stop him, and without AD in the picture, the series looks pretty favorable for Golden State.
We hope these tests are clean and nothing is wrong with Davis. The best way to finish this series, either in Game 6 or 7, is with everybody healthy and giving their everything to secure the win.
