Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta has appeared to blame himself after the Gunners seemingly surrendered the Premier League title to Manchester City on Sunday.
The north Londoners looked on course to secure this season’s EPL crown after an incredible run of form and results under Arteta.
The Emirates Stadium dwellers had been topping the standings for the better part of the campaign and had an eight-point advantage over City at some point.
However, Arsenal’s disastrous form in the closing stages of the season have seen the title slip from their hands, leaving the Citizens in the driving seat in the race.
According to The Mirror, the Gunners’ title charge fell apart after a 3-0 demolition by Brighton on May 14, with the result leaving the defending champs in the driver’s seat.
Goals from Julian Enciso, Denis Undav, and a stoppage-time strike from Pervis Estupinan were enough to earn the Seagulls a momentous win at the Emirates Stadium.
Arteta responsible for Arsenal slump?
Arsenal’s defeat all but dented their hopes of seeing off Man City in the title race, with the reigning champions enjoying a four-point lead at the top with a game to play.
Speaking after the demolition by the Seagulls, Arteta appeared to take full responsibility for his side’s surrender in their Premier League title bid.
“I hate the feeling of letting people down when they’re really expecting something. That’s the biggest regret I have today,” he told Sky Sports.
