After finding out she was expecting triplets only a few weeks after giving birth to her first child, UK resident Sarah Ward, 29, gave birth to four children over the course of nine months.
She and her partner Benn Smith, 31, were astonished to learn they had triplets along the way when their son Freddie was just 9 months old. Then they welcomed Daisy, a Gɪʀʟ, then two sons, Stanley and Reggie.
When Ward became Pʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴛ with Freddie, she had been trying to get Pʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴛ for more than a year and needed to visit her doctor for tests. So, following Freddie’s birth in June of last year, the pair stopped using birth control.
In actuality, she found out she was expecting when Freddie was only eight weeks old.
She said: ” The news that I was Pʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴛ once more so soon astounded me. I began to tremble. I hardly made it through Freddie. I was still dressed in maternity gear. I was unsure of how in the world I would manage.”
When a scan at 12 weeks revealed Ward was having triplets, the couple was even more taken aback.
She claimed that the sonographer asked how many babies we were Cᴀʀʀʏing when she halted. We gasped when we believed she was telling us there were twins. I was so sʜᴏᴄᴋed when I heard they were triplets that I nearly fell off the bed.”
She turned the television toward us and pointed to three tiny, writhing forms while neither of us spoke. When I discovered they would arrive before Freddie became a year old, I just broke down in Tᴇᴀʀs.
She was advised to have a selective abortion—ᴋɪʟʟing one child to give the other two a better chance—after being informed that her pregnancy was high-ʀɪsᴋ. But the couple made the decision to keep each one. At 33 weeks, one of the kids displayed danger indications, necessitating an urgent cesarean procedure from Medway Hospital in Kent’s surgeons.
Reggie was the second baby, weighing 4 lbs 7 ounces, and sister Daisy was the third, weighing 3 lbs 14 ounces. I consider myself to be the world’s luckiest mother since I adore children. I used to believe that I couldn’t have kids, but in less than a year, I had the ideal family.
