Tom Cruise actually a good actor, or does he just play himself?
Let’s put it this way.
In most of his movies, Tom Cruise isn’t supposed to be an actor. He’s supposed to be a movie star.
In the movies where he is supposed to act, he does a really good job
“Magnolia”
“Eyes Wide Shut”
“Rain Man”
“Jerry Maguire”
“Valkyrie”
“Collateral”
“A Few Good Men”
“The Color of Money”
“Born on the Fourth of July”
He’s also capable of playing characters that are nothing like himself
“Tropic Thunder”
Most of Tom Cruise’s movies are enjoyable, and that’s pretty much all you have to know. He makes good movies, he makes movies that have a huge box office and, unlike most other actors, he makes good movies that are huge at the box office.
Confused Robert Downey Jr recalls how Richard Attenborough told him Tom Cruise would have been a better Chaplin
Robert Downey Jr has revealed how Richard Attenborough told him that Tom Cruise would have been a better Chaplin.
The Avengers actor portrayed British comedian Charlie Chaplin in the 1992 biographical comedy-drama film, which earned him a Bafta and an Academy Award nomination.
However, according to Robert, director Richard believed Tom would have been a better fit.
Recalling the interaction on the latest season of Netflix’s My Next Guest Needs No Introduction With David Letterman, Robert said: ‘The first time I met Dicky, he held up a picture of Tom Cruise to me and said, “now isn’t that remarkable resemblance? That’s who should play Chaplin.”
‘I was like… probably.’
He added: ‘Was I called in for a humility session? I don’t know what was going on then.’
Awkward.

David asked: ‘How intimidating is that? Because I think actors like other artists are insecure to begin with and you’ve got Attenborough saying it’s too damn bad we couldn’t get Tommy.’
Robert also disclosed how he went to Richard and told him his Chaplin script ‘was a joke’.
