Manchester United have reportedly identified three potential forwards they could sign during the January transfer window after they failed to land Cody Gakpo.
The Red Devils were heavily linked with the Netherlands international, but they were beaten to the signing by their Premier League rivals Liverpool.
Despite missing out on Gakpo, United are still keen to sign a new striker following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo in January.
According to The Mirror, they have drawn up a three-man shortlist which includes Rafael Leao, Dusan Vlahovic and Goncalo Ramos, who play for AC Milan, Juventus and Benfica respectively.
Leao’s current deal runs until June 2024, while Vlahovic and Ramos are contracted with their respective clubs until the summer of 2026.
However, United are looking into the potential of a loan signing rather than a permanent deal after spending around £230m on transfers during the summer transfer window.
What Erik ten Hag said about missing out on Gakpo as Liverpool snap up top Man Utd target
Liverpool’s Julian Ward broke many a heart in the Manchester United fanbase as the Reds’ transfer guru helped his club snap up Cody Gakpo ahead of the opening of the January transfer window.
Erik ten Hag was questioned on the missed opportunity ahead of the official confirmation and supplied a somewhat coy set of answers.
“I don’t talk about individual cases,” the former Ajax boss told Amazon Prime (via Team Talk).
“We are looking for offensive players, we are looking for a striker. It would be good because the games coming, there are so many, every third day.
“It is tough. We want to play in all the leagues we are in so hopefully we keep going [in them] until the end of the season but to do that we need numbers in the squad to cover it all.”
