While it has only been a couple of months since James Gunn and Peter Safran took a hold of DC Studios’ reins, the duo has already let all hell break loose. With their announcement of a new slate for DCU, fans were enraged (and still are) to learn that their favorite Superman, Henry Cavill is no longer going to play the red-caped superhero.
James Gunn and Peter Safran
James Gunn previously announced that he would be able to share a few glimpses into what the said slate will look like at the beginning of the new year, 2023. Now, this has been confirmed by the filmmaker himself who took to Twitter to reveal when fans can expect some information about DCU’s future.
James Gunn on the Slate’s Announcement
James Gunn
A fan asked James Gunn about an estimate of the projects that will be announced in January of 2023. Gunn, who is always engaging with his fans on Twitter to keep them excited about upcoming projects, replied with a simple, “A few.”
According to a report, Gunn and Peter Safran presented their slate for the DCU future to CEO David Zaslav just a week ago. Now, Gunn taking the liberty to state that a few projects are all ready to be announced sometime in January goes on to say that his and Safran’s slate has been approved and is ready for action. It looks like fans should be ready for a possible DCU reboot!
Since it has only been a little over two months since the duo joined the DC Studios, talking about the casting of the new DCU seems pretty irrational at the point as no one even knows what projects are going to be a part of this much-dreaded slate. Fingers crossed!
What Projects Could be Included in DCU’s New Era?
Young Superman
The Gunn-Safran team is all ready to make some major changes over at the Studios and it really doesn’t seem to matter what the fans say. Gunn himself stated that the “disrespectful outcry” of a “minority” of fans will not disrupt their quest of giving DCU a “wide and wonderful future.”
However, fans of the DC Studios aren’t one to take these decisions quietly. Ever since it was announced that Henry Cavill has been made to put down his cape, fans, especially of Cavill and Dwayne Johnson, have been flooding Gunn’s Twitter with trolls and telling him to resign from the Studios, immediately, and take Safran with him while he’s at it.
Especially given the fact that no updates have been made about what the duo is planning, fans’ restlessness has been skyrocketing the past few days. The only project we know of, as of now, is the project focusing on a younger Superman who is unfortunately not played by Cavill. Gunn has stated that he is writing the script of this project and that it is definitely not an origin film.
Gunn has also been hinting toward projects involving characters like Green Lantern, Mr. Terrific, Jonah Hex, and Deadman. With the DCU expanding more than ever before (movies, series, video games, and animations included) it doesn’t seem like a totally far reach to say that fans can expect the addition of a number of new superheroes/supervillains. Let’s see what January brings for DCU enthusiasts!
