Tim Burton’s web show Wednesday, based on the character Wednesday Addams of the Addams Family, is one of the top trendings shows on Netflix in the world. Jenna Ortega is receiving heaps of praise for her performance on Wednesday, particularly her dance routine in the show. The dance routine, which was choreographed by Ortega herself, has since then gone viral on social media, with several celebs like Lady Gaga, Camilla Cabello, and more also hopping on to the trend.
Now, a cosplayer from India named Medha Srivastava has perfectly recreated Jenna Ortega’s viral Wednesday dance. The cosplayer dressed up exactly like Ortega’s character and matched her step-to-step. The reel has more than 56k views in just a day. Take a look at the video here.
Meanwhile, Jenna Ortega explained how her now-viral dance came to be on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, she said, “Initially, they wanted a flash mob, but I thought, no, there’s no way Wednesday would be cool with dancing, and encouraging a bunch of people.” The actor revealed that she was quite nervous to shoot the scene as she had choreographed the dance herself, “Oh, my God. I was kicking myself. I felt like such a fool. I’m not a dancer. I don’t do any of that. I have no experience in that field. I didn’t sleep for two days.”
Ortega also received a ton of backlash after she revealed that she had tested positive for COVID-19 before she shot for the scene. In an interview with NME, she said, “I’m not a dancer and I’m sure that’s obvious. I’d gotten the song [The Cramps’ 1981 single ‘Goo Goo Muck’] about a week before and I just pulled from whatever I could… it’s crazy because it was my first day with COVID so it was awful to film.”
She added, “Yeah, I woke up and – it’s weird, I never get sick and when I do it’s not very bad – I had the body aches. I felt like I’d been hit by a car and that a little goblin had been let loose in my throat and was scratching the walls of my esophagus. They were giving me medicine between takes because we were waiting on the positive result.”
