Nicole Ziesemer and her husband Matthew, from Michigan, USA, were certain they would only have one child. So they were terrified when Nicole continued to have strong contractions after the birth of their daughter Blakeley.
The doctors thought that Nicole had something wrong with the delivery of the ᴘʟᴀᴄᴇɴᴛᴀ. Nicole had a normal delivery, and the doctor was already putting stitches in the small ʟᴀᴄᴇʀᴀᴛɪᴏɴ she had when they decided to stop everything and do another ultrasound. That’s when the ultrasound showed the little head of another baby. “The doctor was giving me the stitches when he suspected something was very wrong; he did the ultrasound and saw that they were actually twins!”
Nicole, who had already gone through 49 hours of ʟᴀʙᴏʀ, then had to endure another hour of labor before giving birth to little Cade. “It was scary when they said there was something still inside me, and when they saw that it was just another child, I was sʜᴏᴄᴋᴇᴅ. I asked if they were lying. I thought I couldn’t handle another delivery; I was already very tired,” Nicole said in an interview with the Kidspot.
Mom had fraternal twins, a boy and a girl. Little Blakeley was born weighing 1.9 kg, and cute Cade came into the world weighing 2.2 kg. Cade had some breathing problems at first, but soon recovered and became very healthy.
The fact that they were twins was a surprise because Nicole did not follow the recommended prenatal care for pregnant women. She only had one ultrasound exam throughout her pregnancy, and it was on the day of her delivery. “And the doctors think that one of the babies was behind the other at the time of this exam, so it was not visible.”
Nicole decided to tell her story now that her children are one year old. “At first, it was a big scare, and we had to run out and buy another layette and adapt everything for the twins. But now I can’t see myself with just one child; it was supposed to be twins! I love the idea that one will always have the other!” concluded the mother in an interview with Kidspot.
