Man Utd needed a little extra to see off Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, worried the 1-0 lead might not be enough.
Erik ten Hag rang the changes midway through the second half, and while it took until injury time, Marcus Rashford stepped up, with two goals to make it 3-0.
Rashford is a player who simply cannot stop scoring. Even setting aside his World Cup exploits, his club record has been sensational.
His performance level leading up to this weekend’s Manchester derby could not be better.
Marcus Rashford record this season
The forward has now scored in seven consecutive matches, and in eight consecutive home matches.
This latter record of goals in home games betters a record previously held by Wayne Rooney, the club’s record goalscorer.
Having surpassed the 100-goal mark last year, Rashford is now up to 108 first team goals for Man Utd.
This season he has 15 already, and is on course to surpass his personal best of 22 in all competitions.
Rashford also has six assists to his name, taking his goals and assists this season combined to 21 goal contributions in 25 games.
Rashford is priceless
In this type of form, Marcus Rashford really is priceless to Man Utd. If a club came in with an offer to buy him, Man Utd would not even pick up the phone to respond.
The England international forward is unstoppable, and has totally turned around his limp form from last season, where he scored only five goals.
Rashford himself deserves credit, as does manager Erik ten Hag, and striker coach Benni McCarthy.
A new long-term contract for Rashford must be a priority, with his negotiating position getting stronger each and every passing day.
