Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard played like Zinedine Zidane against Tottenham on Sunday, claims former Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara. The Norwegian midfielder scored the second goal in the 2-0 north London derby win.
Arsenal dominated the first half and were deservedly two goals up at the break. Hugo Lloris spilled Bukayo Saka’s cross into his own goal, before Odegaard doubled the lead with a long-range effort.
Odegaard has been in fine form and his strike was his eighth in the Premier League this season. He was awarded the league’s player of the month award for November and December combined last week.
O’Hara was understandably disappointed with Spurs’ performance. But he claimed Odegaard’s showing was reminiscent of France legend Zidane.
He said on talkSPORT: “Arsenal were all over us, they were picking us apart every time they went forward. Saka was just causing problems, Odegaard getting in pockets.
“We can’t get near anyone, we can’t get near anyone in midfield. [Pape] Sarr is the best Tottenham have got to offer in a north London derby?
“Odegaard, he looked like Zidane! It looked like Zidane in there. It’s ridiculous.
“He’s a top player, and he is playing very well at the moment, and it’s a great strike. To get the ball in that area, to hit the target and catch it clean, it’s a great goal and he deserves it at the minute as he’s playing really good football.
“He’s a young player who’s gone in there, a lot of people questioned his price tag and he’s stepped up and has been an absolute star.”
