Chest tattoos are a popular place to get a tattoo – because this provides a large canvas for the tattoo artist to work with. The intense detailing required to ink feathers (for example) can be achieved by making use of this larger space.
If you decide to take the plunge and get a chest tattoo, be sure to do your research thoroughly, especially when it comes to the tattoo artist who may be doing your new ink! Plenty of tattoo artists have their own particular style that they have honed above others (Portrait, Realism, Trash Polka, Black & Grey etc) – so pick something that is appropriate to you and the body art look you are going for.
You can begin your tattoo research right here – by checking out some of the awesome chest pieces we have collected below!
Awesome Birds & Feathers Chest Tattoos
This work in progress looks like it’s going to be a masterpiece – and the wide dimensions of the design make it great for showing off portions of the ink under a tattoo style tank top (and you can always cover up with a cool men’s tee shirt if you’re feeling more conservative). The work above is the first “Icarus” tattoo by Florian Karg, and while it is still in progress it already looks like the finished result will be outstanding!
This outstanding owl chest tattoo by Matt Jordan from New Zealand is easily one of the coolest pieces I have seen this year (2013). It just blew me away! I am not sure if it can be done much better – just look at the detailing! I am pretty sure that if you’re considering a chest tattoo, (and have trust issues about by whom to get your family or owl portrait as chest tattoo) a flight to wonderful New Zealand will be the best decision you can make – and totally worth the money!
Here is the finished result – in all its glory! If you haven’t already, you can go ahead and check out Matt Jordan’s other work. I’m pretty sure that you won’t be disappointed.
Cool Chest & Torso Tattoo Collages
This chest tattoo (or a full front body tattoo) by Nikko Hurtado might be well known these days thanks to the virality of Facebook. But the popularity of his designs speaks for itself!
Another tattoo to take inspiration from if you’re planning a chest piece is probably my favorite in our series of Killer Tattoos 2013. It is one of the greatest and most original designs by a superb artist named Carl Grace. The well-known design above is often referred to as the ‘See No Evil Speak No Evil Hear No Evil Skull Tattoo’ and it’s definitely one for the inspiration book!
Or if you are drawn to darker imagery, then check out the above chest tattoo masterpiece, sourced from facebook by a very talented tattoo artist from the UK: John Anderton.
Portrait-based Chest Piece Tattoos
The beautiful but still edgy tattoo design balances conventional beauty (in the form of the beautiful woman’s profile) with a dark undertone, represented by the skull. It’s a cool chest tattoo idea for anyone who loves hard and soft designs, and is by the very talented Nico Metalink.
Check out the above design by Kyle Cotterman – one of the great US artists out there. His style is vibrant & colorful and very expressive – so it’s not surprising that he also illustrates on several cool Tee designs. So if you can’t get a chance to get real ink from him, you can still wear a Kyle Cotterman design on your body. Thanks to Ink Addict Apparel you will find plenty of other stunning artwork on tees, sweaters & hoodies made by top artists in the USA.
Dan Yakovlev is responsible for this haunting design – and is no doubt one of the very best eastern European Tattoo Artists. There are many of them here in Eastern Europe such as Russia, Hungary, Czech but too little is known or reported (at least not in English). This full front body masterpiece doesn’t need many words, though. The image speaks for itself.
Old-Skool Style Chest Tattoos
Tim Kern – Another US artist with a penchant for Old School Tattoo style. This chest tattoo is definitely one of his masterpieces (at least in my opinion) and actually went viral after sharing on on our tattoo page! I love it because it combines hard and soft imagery – with floral designs and pistols, accented with deep red.
The above design is by the very talented Emily Rose. I personally haven’t seen much of her work before, but judging by the quality of this stunning front body and chest tattoo I’m definitely going to be looking out for more of her work!
