MHA’s Toga and One Piece’s Mr. 2 are both master infiltrators, using cunning disguises and martial arts to tear apart their enemies from within.
Anime villains wield all kinds of scary and powerful abilities, most of all in colorful shonen like One Piece and My Hero Academia. In fact, the latter’s Quirk combat system and the former’s Devil Fruits feel similar at times, and many direct comparisons can be made. But it goes beyond Ace and Endeavor both using fire — each cast also features an expert shapeshifter villain.
MHA‘s Himiko Toga can use her Transform Quirk to imitate other people and their voices. Similarly, the One Piece villain Mr. 2 Bon Clay can use his Clone-Clone Fruit to mimic other people — especially their faces — and back it up with swan-style martial arts. All things considered, though, one of these shapeshifter villains truly stands out as the best.
Mr. 2 Bon Clay’s Devil Fruit Abilities & Martial Arts in One Piece
Mr. 2 Bon Clay, also known as Bon Kurei, was introduced in One Piece as a high-ranking Baroque Works agent serving under Sir Crocodile, and was a one-man team with his formidable martial arts and Clone-Clone Fruit. He didn’t even have a female partner, but unlike Mr. 3 with his partner Miss Golden Week, Mr. 2 didn’t need any allies to completely fool Baroque Works’ enemies with his Devil Fruit. However, his clothes don’t change, so disguising himself as someone important — such as king Nefeltari Cobra of Alabasta — means finding spare clothes to complete his disguise. He can undo any disguise when he touches his cheek with a hand.
In combat, Mr. 2 uses a karate style that he calls the Okama Way, sometimes translated as Oh Come My Way karate. As a high-ranking Baroque Works officer, Mr. 2 is a deadly fighter, having trained for years to hone his karate style and rival any Straw Hat in battle. He often chops at his foes with his hands posed like swan beaks, and his kicks rival any of Sanji’s food-themed kicks as well. If he’s really serious, Mr. 2 can attach his swan decorations to his feet and use their steel-hard beaks like oversized bullets when he performs kicks.
Himiko Toga’s Bloodthirsty Transformations & Borrowed Quirks in MHA
Himiko Toga’s Transform Quirk took everyone in My Hero Academia by total surprise, having only been introduced when she used it to imitate the Shiketsu student Camie Utsushimi in the Provisional Hero License Exam. Toga’s Quirk, possibly a mutation type, allows her to imitate anyone if she has ingested a sample of their blood, though the transformation only lasts so long based on how much blood was consumed. She can mimic not just her target’s physical appearance, but also any clothes they are wearing, though Toga’s own clothes don’t vanish or come off when she transforms. If any transformation involves the target’s clothes, she must undress first.
Toga’s Quirk could only imitate a person’s appearance and voice at first, but after facing the Meta Liberation Army officer Curious, she suddenly awakened her Quirk in the heat of combat. In Ochaco Uraraka’s form, Toga actually used the former’s Quirk to make Curious float high in the sky, then fatally bring her back down to Earth. Toga hasn’t done much of that since in the My Hero Academia anime, but like Tomura Shigaraki, she finally realized her Quirk’s true potential, suggesting immense innate talent.
In combat, Toga relies mostly on speed, agility and knives to fight rather than brute force. Like Stain the hero killer, Toga would rather get a blood sample and retreat than use brute-force combat tactics, except she uses her Quirk to imitate people rather than assassinate them. And if she is ever busted while in disguise, she can use her speed to make a quick getaway.
MHA’s Toga Vs. One Piece’s Mr. 2 – Who’s the Better Shapeshifter Anime Villain?
MHA‘s Toga and One Piece‘s Mr. 2 Bon Clay are both highly compelling and remarkably similar shapeshifter villains, blending trickery with martial arts and a cunning mind to take down the heroes from within. All things considered, though, Mr. 2 Bon Clay is slightly more effective and compelling than Toga.
Unlike Toga, Mr. 2 is actually deadly in a fight with his immense strength and karate style, including his bullet-like swan kicks as a finishing move. That makes him more flexible than Toga, since Crocodile can send Mr. 2 to fight and defeat powerful foes with or without Clone-Clone disguises, while Toga can’t easily overpower anyone with brute force or martial arts. Mr. 2 also has a more compelling character arc since he started off as a villain, then became Sanji’s friend with a great deal of mutual respect.
Mr. 2 even redeemed himself before One Piece‘s “Alabasta” saga ended, risking his life to help Luffy’s crew escape a Marine blockade. Many episodes or chapters later, Mr. 2 did the same for Luffy in Impel Down, risking his life to mimic warden Magellan and help the protagonist escape through the Gates of Justice. That was the second time this redeemed shapeshifter villain made One Piece fans either salute him, cry, or both with his heroic actions.
