Fans think there’s an uncomfortable pattern to the timing of Tom Cruise’s three divorces.
Tom Cruise and his marriages have frequently been a topic of discussion. He has been married three times thus far, but each of those unions ended in divorce. But there’s more in common between his past marriages than the simple fact that they all ended.
Many have noticed a curious pattern that has followed the actor through all three of his divorces. His ex-wives, Mimi Rogers, Nicole Kidman, and Katie Holmes were all the exact same age when they filed for divorce from Tom and each is “11 years younger than the last.” Here’s everything we know about the “33-11 conspiracy” and what could be the reason behind it.
Tom Cruise Has Been Married Three Times
Tom Cruise has been a famous star for decades. He has appeared in classics like Jerry Maguire and Top Gun, but he has also been a part of the massively popular Mission: Impossible film. While he gained popularity through his many movie appearances, his personal life has long been a public interest – from his relationships to his family.
The actor has been married thrice throughout his life. His first marriage was to Mimi Rogers in 1987. Before he tied the knots with the actress, he had experienced early success in his career with Top Gun and Risky Business. Mimi, on the other hand, had starred in several films like Lost In Space and Austin Powers.
Mimi was reportedly the one who introduced Tom Cruise to Scientology, but their marriage was short-lived. The couple split up in 1990 and in the years since the divorce, the actress has said that she regularly gets questioned about what happened to their union, but she preferred not to comment much.
She explained to Today in 2006 her responses to such media prying, “Any time anything happens with him I get a call: ‘What do you think of Katie? What do think about this?’… ‘Yeah, he’s having a kid. Of course, I think it’s great. What do you want me to say?’ ‘Do you think he’ll be a good father?’ ‘How would I know any more than I would know what kind of parent you would be.’”
At the time, the couple released a joint statement saying, “While there have been very positive aspects to our marriage, there were some issues which could not be resolved even after working on them for a period of time.” After the split from Mimi, Tom played a lead role alongside his future wife Nicole Kidman in Days of Thunder.
The pair then got married in December 1990, and they adopted two children: a daughter Isabella and a son Connor in the 90s. During their 11-year marriage, the two also starred in the 1999 movie Eyes Wide Shut together. However, their union did not last as Tom filed for divorce in February 2001 citing “irreconcilable differences.”
The last of the three to marry Tom Cruise was Katie Holmes, and together they became parents to daughter, Suri, in April 2006, before tying the knot in November 2006. However, in June 2012, Katie filed for divorce, and within a couple of weeks, things were settled.
Tom Cruise’s Divorces Have A Strangely Similar Pattern
It may or may not be a coincidence that every single one of the three ex-wives of Tom was the same age when he ended his marriage with them. The year that each of them turned 33 was the year the actor separated from them. It appears 33 is an unlucky number for the actor when it comes to love.
Apparently, 33 happens to be a significant number for Tom’s Church of Scientology. According to NY Daily News, the original membership organization for the controversial religious group, the Hubbard Association of Scientologists, was founded in Phoenix, Arizona, which lies on the 33rd parallel.
The number is also known as the “Master Teacher,” which represents altruism and raising mankind’s positive energy in numerology. The religion’s official website also stated that the characteristics of the Master Teacher closely resemble the philosophy behind Scientology, which seeks “to enable Man to improve his lot through understanding.”
Meanwhile, the online platform, Reddit, which is home to a world of unusual conspiracy theories, became a landing area for some people who noticed an interesting fact about Tom Cruise’s divorce pattern. One took to the platform to share that the actor appears to have a bit of a system when it comes to his marriage and divorce.
The Redditor wrote, “TIL Tom Cruise divorced all three of his ex-wives when they turned 33 (Mimi Rogers, Nicole Kidman, Katie Holmes) and each is 11 years younger than the last.” Then another followed up by sharing a rough timeline of the actor’s marriage life and the numbers match up.
One commented on the post, “This is some Scientology number magic going here.” Another wrote, “We’ve cracked his system. Almost like he planned it.” While many connect the marriage fallout to Tom’s religion, there were some who defended the actor.
A Redditor replied, “He can do whatever he wants to do because he’s rich. Get a clue.” Another wrote, “It is hard to know what is going on in another’s mind, but I doubt this makes him happy. Hopefully, he can work thru whatever is making his relationships difficult to last, and find some joy.”
Is Tom Cruise’s Divorce Pattern A Coincidence?
Mimi Rogers and Tom Cruise parted ways in February 1990 – when she was 34 years old. But the pair announced their split on January 16th, 1990, at which point she was still 33. Nicole Kidman was 34 when she and Tom finalized their divorce in August 2001, however, the actor filed for divorce in February of that year, making the actress 33 years old.
Meanwhile, Katie Holmes is the only one of Tom Cruise’s ex-wives who filed for divorce from the actor. She did so in June 2012, six months before her 34th birthday. So is this just a coincidence? Many agree that this pattern is quite unusual as some claimed it to be connected to Scientology.
Aside from that, another suggestion is a far simpler one; the pattern could be a hint at the possibility that Tom seems to prefer dating younger women under the age of 33 and sticks to that limit rigorously. Whether it can be truly related to these differing reasons, it could just still be a coincidence.
