NBA All-Star season is among the most exciting times in basketball, as we see the best players in the NBA face off against each other in a unique game that can’t be seen anywhere else. The changes the league has made to the All-Star game have made them far more riveting than before and fans want their favorite players to make it to the contest.
After the announcement of the reserves earlier tonight, fans have had mixed opinions. The West will see players like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jaren Jackson Jr., and Lauri Markkanen make their first All-Star appearances. Meanwhile, the East All-Star reserves were also released with a first-time All-Star like Tyrese Haliburton being named, while Jrue Holiday returns to the game after a 10-year break between appearances.
While these names definitely deserve recognition, fans are upset about the players who weren’t included in this elusive group. There are some big names that have been snubbed while fans have raised their eyebrows at certain selections.
Fans will constantly disagree over topics like this. Players like Anthony Davis and Devin Booker haven’t played enough games. Trae Young and James Harden are playing below the level fans expect from them. Jalen Brunson and De’Aaron Fox got outpaced by other first-time All-Star guards to the spots many believed should be theirs.
Other names like Jimmy Butler, Darius Garland, Pascal Siakam, Anthony Edwards, and others have also been called massive snubs.
Is This A Controversial All-Star List?
The reserves have generated a lot of debate over certain players. Jaren Jackson Jr. might not be as eye-popping as Anthony Davis, but his defensive excellence this season has enabled the Grizzlies to have incredible amounts of success. Given the amount of time AD spent out with injury, it’s fair for JJJ to be rewarded for his performances. However, it does seem wrong to say JJJ is better than AD.
De’Aaron Fox was widely expected to be named to the All-Star game and is probably going to be one of the first names called up if anyone is injured and unable to play. The 3 guards ahead of him are objectively having better seasons for their respective franchises.
James Harden is upset that he wasn’t selected but what Tyrese Haliburton is doing on the court has allowed the Indiana Pacers to massively overachieve this season. Jrue Holiday has been perenially underrated and is finally getting the All-Star recognition people have believed he’s deserved for ages.
Every year some players have to get snubbed, as not every great player in the league can make the All-Star team.
