Scarlett Johansson has blasted ‘demeaning’ claims that she auditioned to be Tom Cruise’s girlfriend.
There have long been rumours – disputed by the Church of Scientology – that Cruise has auditioned a number of women to be his girlfriend or wife over the years.
And a former member of Cruise’s Scientology security unit Brendan Tighe this week claimed that Scarlett was among the auditionees.
Tighe told NBC’s Megyn Kelly Today that reports of women who auditioned for to be Cruise’s wifey were accidentally sent to his printer, and Johansson’s name was allegedly on the report.
Now, the Avengers actress has hit out at Tighe’s allegations, calling it a ‘crazy story’.
The 33-year-old told The Hollywood Reporter: ‘The very idea of any person auditioning to be in a relationship is so demeaning.
‘I refuse for anyone to spread the idea that I lack the integrity to choose my own relationships. Only a man aka Brendan Tighe would come up with a crazy story like that.’
Scarlett is currently in a relationship with Saturday Night Live writer Colin Jost.
The Church Of Scientology has also denied Tighe’s claims, with spokesperson Karin Pouw telling Megyn Kelly: ‘Brendan Tighe was a Church of Scientology Flag Service Organization security guard/night watchman from 2002 to 2009. The “access” he boasts of having was largely limited to viewing security cameras from a guard booth. He was removed from that position for dereliction of duty.’
Cruise, 55, was married to Katie Holmes from 2006 until 2012, but before and after that marriage, he has been plagued by rumours that he has auditioned women to be in a relationship with him.
In 2012, Vanity Fair alleged that Persian-British actress Nazanin Boniadi dated the Mission: Impossible actor for several months after being auditioned.
Recently, it was alleged that The Crown actress Vanessa Kirby was next in line; however, she has denied any romance with the star, calling the rumours ’embarrassing’.
